Frozen Yogurt

kosherjewishfoodie May 3, 2010 12:08 PM

Is there a place on the UWS or midtown of Manhatten to get kosher frozen yogurt or soft serve ice cream?

There's also Scream gelato on the UWS and in Madame Tussaud museum...both under Rabbi Mehlman's (Ohav Shalom on W. 84th St ) supervision

Scream was good, but it's really expensive.

CHOWHOUNDERS........Run, do not walk to Rita's..... go get 2 quarts of the Mango ice and enjoy.

FYI - I just clarified with the Va'Ad of Metrowest about the store they supervise in Livingston, some the ices - I think they are called creamed ices are actually dairy and I wondered about cross contamination of the pareve products in the store but I was told separate spoons are used.

Now if they would only bring back pink grapefruit.

The Rita's in Glen Rock NJ is also under supervision. I called and they said they have a certificate from KOA in Passaic NJ, Rabbi Issacson. The KOA website does not state whether it is orthodox/conservative etc.. Does anyone know?

I've already had a recent post on another thread removed for mentioning hashgacha info, so I don't know if this will be allowed, but the OU Kashrus rav I ask my kashrus shaillot of does not "recommend" the KOA.

it is kosher. it's pretty good too. the website has a breakdown of the supervision of the yogurt in the faq's section.

Reading the FAQ section, it seems that the product is certified, but the stores are not. Not everyone would eat in such a place. I notice it's not on the O.Z. (Ohav Tzedek) list.

I also wonder why they need three different certifications. Why wouldn't the OU certify the Tangomonium or Cocoa flavor, for instance?

Perhaps they're made in different facilities?

I was just reporting what the website said. Up to you to go there or not...

The OU may have not certified to other flavors because they were made in a different factory... like GilaB said below..

I'm like Fox - I report, you decide. In a similar vein, I believe that Mister Softee has a similar certifications (that is, the product is certified but not the trucks themselves).
