Palacio de los Jugos is great, but barebones. The chicharrones (pork rinds) there may be the best in the world. I recently discovered that the Versailles pasteles de guayaba may be the best in the area. No one else's comes close, even Gilberts. I'm going to have to second Versailles as a go to place, not the best, but it is an institution. You can then head to Palacio for a batido and some rinds to get you good and sick to your stomach.
An "in the know" place at this moment is Rinconcito Latino on Coral Way. It is sort of a smaller scale Versailles, extremely popular with locals. So much so that you can forget parking in the strip mall it is located in. It is not in the Calle Ocho area, but if you decide to visit Coral Gables (highly recommended), it is nearby.

When I go to Little Havana, I start at El Palacio de los Jugos on Flagler....order (and usually share) a huge portion of some the best roast pork I've ever had and sides for about $8....it's served in styrofoam and we sit on picnic tables outside (cash only). Best food, amazing variety, definitely an authentic "Cuban experience in Miami." Then we drive over to Versailles to stand outside and drink coffee, maybe order a pastry.-----

The Little Havana bullet is a glitch of the vastly inefficent Chowhound "Restaurants & Bars" "feature" (I'm using that term loosely) which latches onto a particular word or phrase and assumes, unless you correct it, that you're referring to a particular restaurant rather than a general location. Here, watch this:

(edited to add: OK, it appears that the logic that caused CH to constantly link to some "South Beach Cafe" for every reference to "South Beach" may have possibly been corrected).
