Going to a show Tues. eve (730) at Terrace Theater in Long Beach (part of the convention center) and am looking for recommendations for a light dinner beforehand. Also interested in any not-to-be missed dessert places for afterward. Thanks

Try Utopia on 1st and Linden. Only a few block from the theater. Its decent, not spectacular, modest prices. Not much to choose from in that area. If you want a really good steak try 555 East just off of Ocean Blvd and Linden. Expensive but worth every cent. Its probably the best restraunt in Long Beach.

If you are in the mood for fish, check out Kings Fish House on Pine Ave. Very good clam chowder, my east coast friends love that place. There are half a dozen places on Pine if thats not to your liking.

For Italian, I would recomend La Parolaccia on Broadway. Very Authentic, low key casual dining. You will even see some patrons speaking Italian there. While they do have good pizza, dont expect Spaghetti and Meatballs or other Americanized idea of italian where everything must have tomato sauce. One of thier best dishes is a chicken in a brandy cream and mushroom sauce. Very affordable. For more upscale Italian, try Christy's just a mile or two up the road. Very good food, former owner was Christy Bono (yes one of Sony Bono's offspring)
