So, I need some help.
I'm looking for a restaurant in Manhattan to celebrate my graduation, and having some trouble fitting certain criteria. There will be 6 of us, including my 12 and 18 year old sisters. I'd really like the day to seem special (mostly for my mother's sake), but I don't think that my family would enjoy an incredibly formal restaurant.
There are two vegetarians among us, and though I am inclined to pick a vegetarian restaurant, I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas of "normal" restaurants that have excellent vegetarian options, but also offer meat or fish for the rest of my family. I'm interested in something along the lines of Blue Hill, but at a lower price point.
As far as neighborhood, I am completely flexible (including outer boroughs - though I know that is a different board!). As far as cuisine, I am completely open, but French, American, Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, etc.) or some kind of fusion would be great. I'd prefer to stay away from classic Italian and Indian though.
I'd rather not spend too much - ideally under $40/50 a head without tax and tip (with only 2 people drinking). We're considering a late lunch (around 3) or an early dinner (around 6), and hopefully can get a reservation on such short notice.
Thanks so much for any ideas at all you might have!

Hi jaehoney - dealing with the EXACT same things with my family right now - graduation dinner for a few meat eaters and vegetarians. I am thinking of Market Cafe, it looks really great and I've heard good things. I don't know if your vegetarians are pescatarians- mine are - so maybe there aren't enough options for you. I'll keep you updated on what I find!
