The Catch (Anaheim, CA): Home of the OMG Burger
As much as I love Man v. Food...rarely do I ever want to try his challenges...it's insane for one person to consume THAT much food. But today, we hopped over to The Catch in Anaheim by the Grove for an early dinner with some friends from college. We were here to try their 4 lb. patty hamburger...one of our friends had seen it on the news...and again, online...and decided that we must go try it.
The restaurant itself was a classy upscale sports bar/lounge...with a nice area for upscale dining if you choose. We were in the bar...all 14 of us. It's owned by the same people who own the Taps Brewery group of restaurants. And service was up to par with what we're accustomed to at Taps. Glasses refilled without request. Servers walking around to make sure that guests were comfortable and happy.
We were here to conquer the OMG Burger. It's made with a 4 lb. all beef chuck patty that's shaped in house and broiled. It's served on top of a 14" crispy egg bun with half a head of iceberg lettuce, red onion, tomato, mayo, dill pickles, and 10 slices of aged cheddar cheese. It's accompanied by 2 lbs. of super crispy and tasty garlic parsley fries (though, I'll admit...I didn't taste too much garlic). Ketchup and mustard is served on the side.
Surprisingly, it was a really good burger. Seasoned really well, though cooked to a medium well doneness (I wasn't fan of that...but I'm not all that sure they would be able to make this burger a medium rare). It was beefy. The lettuce and pickles gave it crunch and a sour bite that cuts through the fattiness in the beef. The tomatoes gave it a bit of sweet acidity. And the cheddar gave it a nice creamy twang.
The kitchen sends it out uncut and in it's prime glory...for our food paparazzi enjoyment. They take it back to slice for us...they slice it into 6 wedges because anymore would destroy the structural integrity of the burger.
We also ordered a double OMG...which is very much like the regular OMG except it has two 4 lb. patties and 20 slices of cheddar. The carnivores on the other side of the table gladly devoured it. Though, I will note that we did not finish the french fries...and some cheaters did not eat their bun...but I can understand...the bun was a bit on the dry side.
To note, we also ordered the Catch burger...the OMG on a much smaller level. It's 12 oz. of beef with all the OMG fixings. That was cooked to a medium rare perfection...and was really delish. We also ordered an order of sliders...that were served on brioche and made with Angus beef and topped with caramelized onions, a house-made remoulade and cheddar cheese. Burgers tasted and tested at every level.
While probably not a place known for it's fine dining...but the menu as a whole looked promising...tomahawk chop ribeye, Hawaiian Ahi tuna tartare is made and served tableside, lobster bisque, and truffled wild mushroom mac and cheese to name a few items. It was a fun place to get together with old friends and enjoy a beer (Taps brews, tons of beer on tap, and a great selection of bottles) and a burger...be it an OMG or a regular.
We talked to the manager after our meal, and found that the OMG is customizable. They are willing to do a low carb (half of the bun), no carb (no bun), and toppings galore. Some options are bacon, avocado, fried eggs, jalapenos, caramelized onions...you name it...they might be willing to do it if they have it on hand in the kitchen.
We're totally willing to come back for another go at a customized burger, and so are our friends.

As I was looking thru your pics, all I thought was "OMG...OMG...OMG!" Thank you for this great review w/pics! The Catch fell off my radar and I completely forgot about this place! Good to know that they're related to Taps (as I love them too). I'll have to let Mr OCAnn know about this place; he'll want to go soon. =)
