Lunch on the way to Napa?

  • 8

Hi all- My mom and I are going to Napa and land at SFO at 11:30AM. I am thinking about stopping for lunch at either Slanted Door or Hog Island Oyster Co. unless anyone has other recommendations for a spot along the way to Napa? Closer is better since we will probably be hungry!

  1. Assuming you are taking the Bay Bridge the idea is to get out off San Francisco as quickly as possible and eat along 80 on the east side. Standard recommendations include Sea Salt,T Rex, Daimo among others.

Lagniappe based on previous posts:Just off 80 at the University exit Berkeley along with several restaurants in the link above is the Takara sake factory.

Do you think Bay Bridge (at that time of day) is better than Golden Gate?

Almost always. If Jane wants oysters there is a Hog Island in the Oxbow Market in City of Napa.

Yeah but the view is better from the Golden Gate! And it's always a thrill to cross it, especially the first time. I would go for Slanted Door myself!

      1. Thank you for all of your ideas. Sea Salt looks great-- they had me at "oyster po' boy" and I think we will hit Slanted Door on our way home since we booked a later flight. Thanks again!!

I haven't been to Sea Salt, but my favorite oyster po 'boy yet in the Bay Area is the one at Cafe 15 in Oakland. You would have to go a little bit further off of I-80 though, and deal with downtown Oakland parking.

Thanks vulber- as much as I'd love to, I think we'll stick to Sea Salt. Our main objective is to get a quick but yummy lunch and make it to Napa as soon as possible.
