Saturday Brunch in Brampton or Mississauga

Hi there,
We're looking for a nice place to take our mom for mothers day on Saturday - not the usual Sunday. It has to be in the Brampton/Mississauga area so it's convenient for the whole family. I'm looking for higher end, not a greasy spoon, kind of like the Old Mill. Any help would be appreciated!

Beef, based on our exceptional dinner last Thursday with spectacular food and charming service, I recommend considering Aggie Martin in Brampton. They are having a special Mother's Day brunch featuring crepes. See the details on their web site.

My friend and I tried to go to Aggie Martin this morning for Brunch while at the Market but it looks like the restaurant is no longer. It wasn't open (should be @ 9AM on a Saturday), there was mail in the door and two signs that say "For Lease or Sale". Disappointed I never got to try this place but I don't live in Brampton so it's a bit of a trek. Also just tried their phone number and it is out of service and their website is down.

Downtown Brampton is suffering. Large numbers of vacancies on Main and the sidestreets are obvious. We tried for some affordable studio space recently and found landlords to be utterly delusional--take it-or-leave it leases on onerous terms for spaces vacant for up to a year. How many headshops and tattoo parlors do the locals need?

I live near downtown Brampton, it's one sad state of affairs. A new Thai food place opened up in the location that used to be "New York Sandwiches", and then it was "West 49".. I wonder how long the thai place will last.

I've been there a few times now, they are very friendly.. Menu is too small though

I worked in downtown Brampton almost 20 years ago and basically, going back there today (haven't been in ages), it almost looks exactly the same! I bet some of the stores there were around back then too! The big difference is the Rose Theatre & some new condo, but that's about it. There is potential for that area but it doesn't seem to be happening. Though from your experience Kagemusha, it sounds like the current landlords are just greedy & delusional.

Just as FYI Aggie Martin is gone, big For Sale/Lease sign in the window. The food was great but the owner was a bit of a nutbar and I think that played a lot into this place going under. We live in downtown Brampton and are seriously hoping for some kind of restaurant turn around. We really need a decent pub and a steak house. Have to agree with Kagemusha, from what I've heard, most of the decent spaces for restaurants are being well over priced. Heard that the asking rent for the old O'Malley's place was higher than downtown TO. Crazy. Hope the Thai place can survive but that spot is a black hole for restaurants. Saw a new place going into the spot beside the liquor store on Nelson as well. I'll post reviews if I give either a try.

Don't know how long the landlords can comfortably languish on the bottom. They're losing income and paying taxes while their properties decay and pull down what little attraction(and value) remains in old Brampton. Several small, OK-minus second floor rental spaces suitable for a photo studio were going for more than a decent sized house in Mississauga. Got a callback today from a sleazeoid who dropped rent marginally but then insisted we pay a friend of his to clean the place up, rather than DIY. Friends looking for small resto spaces are seeing exactly the same movie. Bizarre.

I'm downtown Brampton and have noticed a poutine place going in near Main and John... hte sign has been up for a few weeks, but it could do well as an after skate place from Gage Park.

Freshly Thai is not too bad. Good vegetarian options, but for Pad Thai, I'll take Bamboo Gardens at Kennedy and Queen anytime.

The new place beside the Liquor Store is a tandoori restaurant, but it seems as if that sign has been up for a while with no action inside.

The old City Hall cafe (I think it was called) is now papered up with signage for "George Street Bistro"... anyone know what that'll be like?

I really don't think there's anything in Brampton that would meet your needs, sadly. If I were you I'd look to the Airport Strip (Airport Road hotels).

The Sheraton has a Mediterranean place called Olio w a chef from culinary team Canada. We spent a pre-flight night at the hotel and enjoyed our meal there. Sorry, theres' really not a lot to choose from.

If you're willing to go to the Lakeshore area, Aielli is a good choice and has won Wine Spectator Awards

La Castile is in the Square One area, has been around forever and is closer in ambience to The Old Mill:
