Guidance Please! It's all about the romance in Napa Valley for us this June

  • 6

You all have been incredibly helpful as we plan our 10 day trip to northern California this June. The itinerary is just about mapped out for lodging, tours, vineyards, and most meals (thanks primarily to your other postings). However, we are celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary and marveling that we've made it this long, this far and still madly in love. We want to dine some place incredible and very romantic on a Tuesday evening. We are on a waitlist for TFL and don't know whether to be hopeful or not. We are staying in Yountville. Realizing that Redd's is highly recommended, the ambiance doesn't appear (from the website) to be what we are looking for. Cyrus and Etoile's aren't open on Tuesday. While we consider ourselves "foodsnobs" with very high standards for food quality, preparation and service, I'm not sure Meadowood is what we are looking for (based on the online menu). Martini House has mixed reviews and I'm nervous. It's our first trip to Napa and we want it perfect.

Will you help another wandering foodie?

  1. Meadowood is wonderful and very romantic, more romantic than any of the others even. Food is top-notch, and the online menu is a much-abbreviated version of what you are presented with when you dine. The dining room is beautiful with lovely tables and lighting; the service is exemplary and professional. Go here to read numerous reports on Meadowood:

And please call the concierge at Meadowood and ask her to mail/fax you a complete menu: (800) 458-8080.

Cyrus is too far away. Keep your fingers crossed for FL. (Perhaps sending them a note informing them of the specialness of the occasion will boost your chances.) Martini House is probably not special enough. Redd's interior is stark and not romantic. Auberge is lovely for a cocktail, but the food is not up to muster and overpriced.

Completely concur with Maria Lorraine; no way you want to drive to Healdsburg and back when Meadowood is gorgeous and just up the hill AND fabulous.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I believe we have a fabulous trip planned and could have never found such great direction without chowhounds. There is an unbelievable amount of information here. We have written TFL with our request and received a very nice response, acknowledging our occasion and noting it on the waitlist. We have reservations at the Meadowood also. I think we are set with reservations at most of the restaurants and vineyards that have been recommended. Again, THANK YOU!

    2. Are you sure Cyrus isn't open on Tuesdays? The website states "We serve dinner nightly from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The bar opens at 5:00 p.m.".

This is what I read on their website: "Lunch is served on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The menu is the same as our dinner menu. Ala carte is available in our bar. Dinner is served Thursday through Monday from 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., our bar opens at 5:00 p.m. Cyrus is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday."

Thanks! I was reading the contacts page (which they should update, since it's misleading), not the reservation page. Guess we won't be trying Cyrus either. Hope you guys enjoy Meadowood.
