Birthday Dinner with Baby

I'm looking for a place to go for a nicer dinner to celebrate a birthday in downtown Toronto that is baby friendly. There will be only one baby (9 months) in a group of 6 people, so he should be happy with all of the attention he is getting, but he wont be silent. We will go early to avoid the crowds (6ish) but we dont want to bring him somewhere inappropriate. Can anyone recomnend any restaurants? We are open to any type of food.

I went to a birthday party at the Drake on the Sky Yard last year. The birthday girl brought her baby (about 10 months), as did other guests and it was totally fine. The key is to go a bit earlier as you mentioned. We had a pre-set app-style menu and it was a lot of fun.

I agree. We have an 18 month child - at 9 months ours was still pretty happy in the bucket with some holding/ high chair action. Loud restaurants are better - with lots of action (Dim sum is good!). Avoid quiet boring restaurants at all cost. Restaurants like Bar Italia, Beer Bistro are loud and good so they would suit your needs. Globe Earth would be good as well - but you'll need to ensure they have seats that are amenable to a booster! Oh the homework we get to do before dining these days!

Not upscale as in Canoe but still rather nice and family friendly (IMO) is Buca. If that's not your thing you might want to try a place like Globe Earth. Again not upscale but nice.

The louder the better - we go with our daughter to the pub all the time for Sunday breakfast without difficulty. But for a birthday dinner, have you thought about upscale Chinese dim sum like Lai Toh Hee / Lai Wah Heen?
