Big Ragu - Still good for a big birthday dinner?

A large group of us are going to the Big Ragu for dinner on a Saturday night. We were once regulars, but I haven't heard much about it lately and I'm starting to lose my confidence. Has anyone been there lately?

Don't care if the food is simple, but it's got to be good

  1. The food is pretty good. My main criticism is they could trim the fat off of their braised meats a little more. Big, Flintstone sized beef short ribs with a huge chunk of fat on them. Silver membrane on the lamb shoulder untrimmed. Having said all of that, I love the atmosphere you are treated like family and the food is mostly good, pizzas are bang on in fact.

    1. I was there late last year and was not impressed. I had the gnocchi with mixed mushroom, gorgonzola and a Jack Daniel cream. The gnocchi was like glue, you could not distinguish one dumpling from another. The Jack Daniels was so strong it was as if they poured it on at the end. I barely got through a quarter of this dish. Worst gnocchi I've ever had!

      1. Jane T when are you going? We are actually going this weekend with a group to celebrate a birthday. Will report back.

We're going this weekend too. Could it be that we're in the same group? Might not need the report after all.

Haha Jane T. Heard the place is tiny! So if there are only 8 of us and with your big group we have taken over the restaurant.
