        1. re: Littleman

Littleman, didn't the Bourbon Mall have a bad fire late last year? Have they reopened?

The tamales in Corinth are different from those in the Delta - much longer and thinner with less meat filling.

Gosh, there are so many more to add - consider adding Solly's in Vicksburg. Is Big Jim's still open in Clarksdale?

In Natchez, there are tamales at Fat Mama's but I like the ones at Donut Shop *so* much better.

Just have to add that I like the tamales at Hick's in Clarksdale best in the whole wide world...

The Bourbon Mall did have a fire and I don't think they have reopened. Should not be too long though. Joe Pope's in Rosedale makes good tamales. Hick's are OK too but the best I think come from a SS south of Greenville on # 1.

        2. Blew through Vicksburg a few days ago...Stopped at "The Tamale Place" ..South frontage road between Halls Ferry and Indiana Ave....bought 1 dozen...Wish I had bought 3...Awesome!!
          Going back soon!!!

          1. My father (a tamale lover) swears by Hicks.

Sierra Skyes Mom........I Love Erling Jensen's. Where is your Cypress Inn located. Hick's is good but Joe Pope's is better. Actually a few of the Delta restaurants get their tamales from a place in Greenville, MS. Hick's makes his own. He has good BBQ and plate lunches. I love tamales. Hick's used to be down town in Clarksdale. That's where Bill Clinton had lunch. Hick's took over the old police station on 61 and made a BBQ joint out of it.

            2. In Jackson the best tamales I've had are Tony's Tamales.

They are also served at Taqueria de Guatalupe, my go-to Mexican place, but there I'll stick with the tacos or enchiladas.

Are there any others to try in the Jackson metro area?

Big Apple Inn on Farish Street (also on North State near Triangle Mart) are hard to beat in Jackson. Soulshine Pizza in Ridgeland uses theirs too, so they are pretty easy to try.

Pigskin BBQ in Ridgeland gets theirs from Hot Tamale Heaven in Greenville, and they are really, really good!

                1. re: Clarkafella

Hal and Mal's uses Tony's and charges double for them. Walker's and Shapley's also have expensive hot tamales.

              2. doris's in diberville is not so great. love the idea but the actual tamales were a bit bland. bought some goat meat tamales from the lovely lady at the ocean springs fresh market last week. haven't tried them yet but i will tomorrow for lunch!
