Bin 54 happy hour?

Anyone checked out happy hour at Bin 54? I hear they have 1/2 price appetizers between 5:30-7 Monday - Friday. I'm not a steakhouse kind of girl, but the carmelized sea scallop and grilled house cured double cut bacon sound like a protein jackpot.

That used to be our go-to place for special occassions but the quality has dropped over the last year or so. But heck, half price appetizers? I'll make sure we check it out soon. Is the tuna tartare still on the menu? They made a great version.

I just checked their menu and I'm seeing tuna tartare as an option under the Steak Tartare heading. There's a cheese plate too ...

I could make a meal out of two appetizers there, no problem. Nice wines by the glass too, and good drinks. But not cheap.

Not a big fan of Ruths Chris, but then again I'm not much of a meat eater. And Bin 54 is pretty close to us.

Yeah but you weren't going to Bin54 for the meet either and the prices are lower than Bin54.

In the past we were going to Bin 54 fairly regularly (anniversaries, husband's b-day, special stuff like that - so maybe 5 times a year?) but yeah, we'd pretty much stopped. Still, I *definitely* am not driving to durham to go to a chain steak place.

Good deals at Ruths Chris, but I'd rather support a local business...and I'm lazy! I live in CH. Thanks for the heads up though.

Is this "Prime Time" $5 menu limited to certain hours? The website only states that is available in the bar only, Sunday through Friday. I don't particularly care for Ruth's Chris, or the Southpoint mall area for that matter, but I might be tempted to try this out because the bar area in Ruth's is typically quite sexy and is a lovely place for a martini.

I'm only posting what I find. I know it's a bit irresponisble perhaps, but figured I'd offer it up. I, personally, have never been to a Ruth's Chris.

Nah, it isn't irresponsible. It's good info. I'm just not a fan of RC's. Some may well be, and be cyber-kissing you for letting them know.

Checked out the Bin 54 happy hour last night, and made a great meal of it. It definitely isn't cheap, even at half price, but we were so happy with the food. Both of us had the tuna tartare, husband had the sliders with goat cheese and I had the crab cake. I'm pretty picky when it comes to crab cakes, but this was a good one. They use ground shrimp as the binder with just a bit of panko on top for a bit of crunch - lots of crab. It is served on a bed of creamed corn (? I think this is how they described it on the menu). Also shared some fries. They brought bread (didn't really expect that, what with eating on the cheap) and even offered more of it (although they forgot to bring the extra that my husband took them up on). Again, not an inexpensive meal - 3 glasses of wine each and the above came to something like $110 pre-tip. But it was very good, and we'll likely do it again. We left feeling very satisfied.

Their seared scallop and truffled potato appetizer is to die for.

Definitely - my husband had a really hard time choosing between that and the sliders. Beef won.
I should mention that the crabcake is very big - much more than appetizer size.

When you said it isn't cheap, even at half price you aren't kidding. The lady and I went a few weeks ago and had one appetizer each (the scallop dish and the chilled lobster dish) and one cocktail each and my wallet was relieved of $40, pre-tip.

Nope, wasn't kidding. Even going for half-price apps is a fairly pricey dinner, especially if you have more than one each. And wine or booze.

Went to Bin-54 at 5:30p tonight for a business drink. Duvel on special and had the crab cake and seared scallop, both 1/2 off. Great deal given the quality. Truffle potato puree that came with the scallop was tops. Scallop cooked just right and healthy sized crabcake. Defintiely worth checking out at least once if you haven't already.

I think the crabcake could be a meal in itself - very big.
