Bin 54 happy hour?
Anyone checked out happy hour at Bin 54? I hear they have 1/2 price appetizers between 5:30-7 Monday - Friday. I'm not a steakhouse kind of girl, but the carmelized sea scallop and grilled house cured double cut bacon sound like a protein jackpot.

Went to Bin-54 at 5:30p tonight for a business drink. Duvel on special and had the crab cake and seared scallop, both 1/2 off. Great deal given the quality. Truffle potato puree that came with the scallop was tops. Scallop cooked just right and healthy sized crabcake. Defintiely worth checking out at least once if you haven't already.

Checked out the Bin 54 happy hour last night, and made a great meal of it. It definitely isn't cheap, even at half price, but we were so happy with the food. Both of us had the tuna tartare, husband had the sliders with goat cheese and I had the crab cake. I'm pretty picky when it comes to crab cakes, but this was a good one. They use ground shrimp as the binder with just a bit of panko on top for a bit of crunch - lots of crab. It is served on a bed of creamed corn (? I think this is how they described it on the menu). Also shared some fries. They brought bread (didn't really expect that, what with eating on the cheap) and even offered more of it (although they forgot to bring the extra that my husband took them up on). Again, not an inexpensive meal - 3 glasses of wine each and the above came to something like $110 pre-tip. But it was very good, and we'll likely do it again. We left feeling very satisfied.

That used to be our go-to place for special occassions but the quality has dropped over the last year or so. But heck, half price appetizers? I'll make sure we check it out soon. Is the tuna tartare still on the menu? They made a great version.

re: burgeoningfoodie
In the past we were going to Bin 54 fairly regularly (anniversaries, husband's b-day, special stuff like that - so maybe 5 times a year?) but yeah, we'd pretty much stopped. Still, I *definitely* am not driving to durham to go to a chain steak place.

re: burgeoningfoodie
Is this "Prime Time" $5 menu limited to certain hours? The website only states that is available in the bar only, Sunday through Friday. I don't particularly care for Ruth's Chris, or the Southpoint mall area for that matter, but I might be tempted to try this out because the bar area in Ruth's is typically quite sexy and is a lovely place for a martini.
