Cheapest cases of Sam Summer?
Question about drinks instead of food: We are planning a wedding for this summer and want to offer people some good beer (we're hoping for Sam Adams Summer Ale), but we are on a tight budget and want to keep costs down. (We're hosting it on our own site, so we can serve our own booze instead of worrying about a liquor licence.) We want to serve it in bottles so that we don't have to pay extra for glassware. The wedding's on the Maine coast, but we were thinking we'd probably buy it here and take it up.
So, where would you recommend for the best prices on large quantities of bottles of Sam Summer, or beer of similar quality? We'll be buying a lot, so places with bulk discounts (like for buying multiple cases) would be ideal. Should we go to Costco? (We don't have a membership but are considering one.) New Hampshire? An independent store in the suburbs?
Costco or BJ's might be worth looking at, but thinking about my (admittedly relatively limited) experience with their liquor departments, I fear you may have trouble getting full cases of their seasonal beers. They tend to have full cases of the lager, maybe the ale, and then a variety pack with a sixer of the current seasonal.
My gut feeling is that the best ratio of price to ease would be to stop in New Hampshire on your way up to Maine and load up there.
Now that I think of it, there's a Wal-Mart Supercenter on Rt. 1 in Portsmouth NH that has a beer and wine license. That might be worth a shot. Here's their phone number: (603) 433-6008
NH won't charge tax. or deposit I believe. And BTW the big stores with booze in MA are open to the public. When Sam's Club in Natick was open they had great prices. They also limited beer purchases to 5 cases or so. I'd call the NH stores and reserve what you need
Gary's in Portsmouth NH. The place is a must stop every time I'm in the area. They usually have cases on Sam for 19.99.

Thanks! Looks like NH is the way to go, one way or the other. We'll take a look at Gary's and the Wal-Mart Supercenter - hopefully we'll get a chance when we pass through Portsmouth.
You might consider calling Harpoon or popping by the brewery to see if they can give you a deal. Everyone there is super friendly and passionate about their beer, so I'm sure they'd love to help.
