Exotic, sit-down Friday lunch near embarcadero
My foodie friend's visiting from Alabama, and we want a sit-down lunch walkable from the Embarcadero Center Hyatt. She's thinking something exotic, that she doesn't get to eat normally. Doesn't have to be fancy. Slanted Door comes to mind, but frankly, my last visit left me unimpressed. Any other ideas?

How about La Mar? Peruvian, nice setting.

Third. Definitely something that your friend won't eat in Alabama. Even if she doesn't love it, it will be interesting for her.

Another vote on La Mar.
But depending on your definition of exotic, i would like to throw in:
- Kokkari (Greek)
- Piperade (Spanish)

Agree with La Mar and Kokkari. Piperade is good, too, but would depend on the definition of "walkable." Close to the hotel there is Stone Korean Kitchen. Not very exotic, but perhaps worth considering for other reasons are Perbacco and Barbacco. Also, the Hyatt is only 1 1/2 block from Yank Sing.

thanks everyone. That's funny, I've never heard of La Mar - this is a part of town I almost never get to. But all your suggestions are great!

Don't know why it hasn't popped up.

Lafitte. Brand new, just opened, one pier over from La Mar.

Not sure what she considers exotic (we have such a variety here). I like all the suggestions so far and OSHA Thai also comes to mind, the ambiance is very nice and it is next door to the Hyatt. I love the fried banana there (it might be a touristy dessert but it really tastes good!).

You could try Mexico DF...probably something you won't get in Alabama. La Mar however is probably the most exotic and suitable.
