Taco Truck in Tarrant AL

smithareeny Apr 28, 2010 10:39 AM

I just thought I'd give your guys a heads up about a taco truck that I tried today. It is on Pinson Valley Pkwy (Hwy 79) in Tarrant. The truck sits in the Marathon Gas parking lot. Anyhow, I tried the carnitas torta and it was really good and huge! The pork was tender and chunky, the bolillo roll soft on the outside and crispy where it was grilled and all the toppings fresh and tasty. It was $5.50, not terribly cheap but considering the shortage of taco trucks in the Bham metro area, not bad. I'm going try one of their burritos later this week. I'll keep you posted.

It is good to know that there is more than one taco truck in the Birmingham area. Prior to your post, the only taco truck I was aware of is on West Valley Avenue in Homewood (formally known as Taqueria Guzman). They have the best tacos I have had in town (I like them slightly better than the ones at Gordo's).

But, I will have to make a trip to Tarrant for a little comparison. Thanks for the heads-up.

The west vally taco truck is no longer called Taqueria Guzman? I saw someone on yelp (the original reviewer btw) refer to it as Los Dos Hermanos? Is that the new name?

No, I think the name is "Pineda".

Just back from West Valley (cabeza, carnitas, buche tacos). It's still Taqueria Guzman.
I went early to beat the crowds and it was already hopping at the truck. Must have been a dozen to 20 people there over the time it took me to wait, order and leave.
It's still in my Top 2. Gordo's may have an edge for having a few more fillings, but Guzman's tacos always taste great and their corn tortillas are stellar.
Guzman's burritos ($5.50) are huge. Still need to try their tortas ($5.50), which is one of my favorite sandwiches on earth.

I like that you can get their tacos (TG) with "the works" which includes the queso plus crema. So good!

Yeah, it was a nice touch in the ones I got on Thursday. Normally, I'm not much of one for anyothing other than meat, onions and cilantro. But the quantity of cheese and crema they used blended nicely without overwhelming.

Can't wait to try it. Do you know days/hours it's open? How extensive are the meats/fillings for tacos and tortas?

10:00am-9:00pm daily. The menu says Tacos, Burritos, Tortas and Ceviche. My friend got a quesadilla so I know they make things off the menu.
The meats are Al Pastor, Carnitas, Cesos, Lengua, Pollo and Asada. They have a couple more but I can't remember.

Cesos (brains)?? That's a new one for this area.

I went back today. They also have Chorizo & Tripitas for their fillings. There were two other things that I have never tried, Birria which is a stew with goat or lamb and of coarse I can't recall the other one because I'm old. I did try the Carne Asada Torta though. Pretty good but not as good as their Carnitas. $1.75 for their tacos-$5.50 for Burritos & Tortas.
