Restaurant.com generic gift certificates and Dinner-of-the-Month

Some of us buy restaurant.com generic gift certificates and DOTM's when the 80% codes become active, and then convert them to restaurant-specific GCs later on.

I don't know if this is common knowledge, but the selection of restaurant-specific GCs that the generics and DOTM's can be converted into is much more limited than if you buy restaurant-specific GCs directly, even if you look at the beginning of the month, when they replenish the supplies of all GCs.

I tested this by trying to convert some generic GCs and DOTMs at various times of the month. In every case, the selection available was less than what I saw when I tried to buy the restaurant-specific GCs directly.

So, just a heads up for anyone going this route with restaurant.com.
