Au Bon Accueil - Anyone Been Recently?

  • 6

Hello chowhounders- I want to see if anyone has been to Au Bon Accueil recently and what their experiences have been. I was planning on going in September for dinner during my honeymoon trip (mainly because of the view of the Eiffel Tower and the positive reviews on this board in comparison to other "view restaurants"). However, now I am starting to question this choice as I am becoming more and more intrigued with some of the newer bistros that are getting a lot of fanfare recently (Frenchie, et al). I would appreciate any input. Thanks!

  1. It was one of my favourites in town, but I've been twice since they changed the team and won't be going again. It all looks the same, but without the wonderfully precise and subtle cooking that characterized the old chef.

So, while I'm not sure you should focus on NYT bistrots, ABA is definitely off my list of great places.

Thanks Soup. I knew it would be wise to ask for advice on this. It is too bad that the cooking has fallen off. I guess I won't feel bad now about changing the plan now! I am thinking of doing CAJ instead (proximity would still seem to be close to the Tower where we plan to visit after dinner).

About CAJ, do you think a meal there would be a little heavy if we plan to do a Michelin starred lunch the day after? From what I have read, Frenchie seems to have the lighter cuisine. Thanks!

Well, I wouldn't recommend CAJ and a Michelin starred lunch the same day, unless the Michelin starred place is a place like l'Astrance or le Meurice that actually leaves you hungry. But if you can sleep over it, I think having foie gras and riz au lait at CAJ will leave you hungry enough for lunch the next day.

The cuisine at CAJ is not heavy. But portions are not tiny.

Agree totally, also been twice since the change, no more.

      3. Does anyone know where the chef/team went after Au Bon Accueil?

He went back to Japan (somewhere in Hokkaido I believe). The guys working at Makoto Aoki's would be able to tell you more.
