Anyone got the lowdown on why Dix is closing?

Dix BBQ & Brewery always seems to be packed, so I was surprised to learn they're closing soon.

From the events page of the Vancouver Craft Beer Week:

"In life, we all experience loss, and wIth this loss comes mourning. The Vancouver craft beer scene is about to lose one of it’s own when DIX BBQ & Brewery shuts its doors forever in the near future. Come join Vancouver’s own The Carnival Band to celebrate the life of one of the best brew pubs to ever grace the downtown core, New Orleans style.

Crawlers are encouraged to wear black or their Sunday best!"

I herd that the group that owns it is closing it down so they can open a brewery in Olympic village, something about the old Salt refinery??

      That's what I heard (read) too. http://www.cityfood.com/restaurant/pr...

It won't be called Dix...hence the mourning. (Was Dix really that good? I certainly was not impressed by their beer FWIW. But what do I know?)

I sent a friend to Dix two weeks ago because he wanted casual with lots of beer on tap and he was threatening to go to Steamworks (I assume the food there is still subpar), so it was either Dix or Yaletown. He said it was decent but not outstanding FWIW.

Terrible BBQ. I tried the brisket when I went. Dry, tough, and tasteless. I know that it is a tough cut of meat to do right, but if you cant, don't bother. No loss to the food scene. Beer wasn't bad, but I won't be shedding tears.

I've actually had good food at Dix...during one of the Winter Xtreme Caskivals...and it was a bowl of mussels ;) I think it was a special dish just for the cask festival, cooked with their white beer. I tried their bbq during the summer cask festival and it was nothing to write home about. Their cask beers are quite good but the food is meh.

I thought they were going to move to the old Mini Cooper space in Yaletown - the permit sign on the door had their name on it (mind you, this was probably two weeks ago that I read it).
