Victoria, B.C. - Best Burger Within Close Walking Distance of the Empress Hotel

I'd appreciate advice on where to find the best burger in close proximity (a few blocks walking distance) to the Empress Hotel.

  1. I like Pink Bicycle (but I note that it has as many fans as detractors.)

I second the recommendation for Pink Bicycle, but be aware that it is open only until 8:30 pm Mon-Sat.

Ferris' Oyster Bar on Yates St. does a pretty good burger and is open later (and on Sundays).

    2. I'm just a newbie, but if I were you I'd hike a little further over to the Fernwood Inn and grab yourself one of their fine burgers. Best burger secret in town. Cool little neighbourhood, good beers on tap as well.

Welcome to the boards, spitjr (nice handle!). And no worries about being new, ya gotta start somewhere right? I think the Fernwood Inn is a fine rec (but them I am not a Pink Bike fan).

HMMM, funny, I really do not like the food at Fernwood Inn (and that includes the burger). Plus it is much further away from the Empress than what the poster asked for (he wanted just a few blocks from the Empress).

Why not Pink Bike? They have quite a selection of burgers and burger specials. I had the prime rib burger there once; it was delicious.

My main complaint about burgers in Victoria is the same as for burgers in other parts of Canada...they are always cooked to well done. You just can't seem to get away from that in this country.

Fair point well made on the food at Fernwood, but it is a nice place to hang and drink a few beer. Isn't Stage just across the street for grub?

And as for disliking PB, I found the burgers mealy and unispired but maybe I just didn't pick well, and you're so right about them being overdone virtually everywhere on the Wet Coast of BC.

The vic burger blog raved about the one at Aura (Laurel Pointe Inn). I have not gotten there yet to try it tho - it's on the lunch menu. Stunning setting....
