Two for the Road or "Just roamin'"(Rome to Venice via Florence)
Will be driving from Rome to Florence, and then a few days later to Venice. Looking for that unusual, excellent and inexpensive little place to stop and have lunch on the road. Not wedded to the autostrada, but will go where the food is worth the trip. Also looking (and a little too lazy to go through the entire board) for small, really good local places in Rome, Florence and Venice.
what route are you planning to take between Florence and Venice? there are some great food cities in between.
ditto between Rome and Florence -there are a whole string of interesting hill towns to visit along that stretch of the Autostrada starting with Orvieto.. If you decide how far you want to get/what you want to see, folks are more likely to have recommendations for you.
In Venice we particularly liked La Zucca and Anice Stellato on our last visit. Most of the local restaurants away from San Marco are small places which would suit your plan. I think if you searched recent posts for these destinations you would find enuf additional reccs to give you something to think about.
