  1. 1) Scenic Loop Cafe is a wonderful place about 15 miles out of town. Get their Chicken Fried Steak and their Poblano pepper bisque soup!
    2) Rudy's BBQ is best brisket in world. I eat there 2-3 times whenever I am in town. Brisket is smoked over oak, not hickory, and gives it a great flavor.
    3) Chris Madrid's for a burger. They are on the west side of downtown by 410 and Hildebrand Rd.

I live in N.W. San Antonio. No BBQ in town compares to that in Luling or Lockhart. All BBQ here is just roasted meat with BBQ sauce poured over it.

Try the chicken enchaladas at Garibaldi's Mexican Restaurant on Hy 90. Not a pretty place, but we drive down all the time to eat there. Also, Martha's Mexican Restaurant on Babcock (big, good margaritas). Good, inexpensive Chinese at the Golden Wok on West 4110 - sweet and sour pork my favorite, but other good, fresh food too. Go weekdays - food is fresher.

    2. There is a top notch vietnamese restaurant on the inside of 410 near Ingram Rd called Pho Ha Long. Not to be missed.

      1. There is a place called Apetito's (I think) which is only open for lunch... I get the Mucho Grande plate (with a Diet Coke) that has 3 cheese enchiladas, a chaulpa and and a puffy taco... if my memory serves me right. The biggest lunch you have ever seen. I truly miss this place. Lots of cops due to who owns it, so don't go if you are "wanted."

I normally pass on places where patrons talk about the size of the food, but in this case it is great Tex Mex at a cheap price.

BTW, I hate the enchiladas at Garibaldi. They use American cheese which is way to creamy and gross for me... Food is a matter of opinion:)
