Nice Dinner on Cape Cod
Hi Everyone,
I am looking for a nice place in the midcape (Harwich/Dennis/Chatham) to have dinner for 10. Diners will range in age from 18mo to 60+ yrs, so nothing too fancy, but it is an anniversary so someplace pretty nice. I'm thinking of something like Clancy's, just not Clancy's. There was a place in Dennis near Sesuit Harbor (Bridge St?) that overlooked the marsh but I can't recall the name. Any help on that place or any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I had a nice dinner once at the Road House but that is not in the area he requested. I realize Brewster is not either but down 137 and the Millstone, Agrodolce is a find. I love Ocean House..nuff said.

re: phelana
What kind of find is Agrodolce? Have they completely replaced the kitchen and staff and menus?
We visited Agrodolce on the recommendation of a chef friend who knew some of the kitchen staff, but not the restaurant, a couple of years ago. It was easily one of the very worst meals I've experienced on the Cape. Service was high-school awful, the food was bad-industrial with inferior ingredients for the price. My dining partner abhors Olive Garden but declared that would have been much preferable to the bland and gloppy seafood pasta dish and wretched salad she received. My pizza, supposedly wood-fired oven, was tough and tasteless as a frozen pizza from the supermarket freezer case. It was shockingly poor value for money. A number of our friends who live very nearby in Brewster say they never again return to Agrodolce after their own sad experiences. The whole thing left me baffled, because my expectations were not terribly high but they were far from met.
Have they improved that drastically recently? If so, that's commendable.

re: Dan D
I haven't been, but I did find this recent post that had 2 good write ups to consider:

DanD, I heard the same but Fred Fried who plays there Fridays told Jillian it had changed for the better. We went and agreed. Read my review on this board.
The bridge work is abysmal. Every day heading OFF Cape is a long wait. Sometimes the canal road to take the Bourne Br is backed up. NOT loving this but the work needs to be done.

The Marshside is very pleasant. Food is very good, and the view out over the marsh is great. Ask for a window seat.

Marshside used to be a nice spot, but I haven't been there in a few years. As I recall, there was a thread on it within the last year, since it had a total rehab. Your group might like Chapin's in Dennis. Tucked way back, north of 6A, near Chapin Beach (site of the old Joe Mac's). It would be good for 10, and for the age range. It's a little bright, but family friendly. I had dinner at Mahoney's in Orleans over the weekend, and it was great. Looks like they could accomodate 10.

re: ciclista
Not only will you not get ten seated at "the oyster", but it's also not partucularly good.
Oh it's a fun place to be, the bar scene is excellent for Chatham and the scallops wrapped in bacon over toast points with lemon and butter are fantastic. But I think they may be the only thing that is.For that kind of crowd size, and if you all want baked stuffed lobster, try Pate's. It's a throwback kind of joint quite reminiscent of the 1970's. Do not, however, order anything at Pates other than that lobster.
No offense to anyone, but the Chatham Squire sucks for anything but a burger/shrimp cocktail kind of thing. I'm sorry to say it but that's the fact. Oh and Christians, once a great independent was bought by a big restaurant company and also sucks in a major way.
Chatham isn't a really good town for eating, unless you go to Pisces.
Anyone remember the old "Le Petite Cafe"? They had fish soups to die for.

CCg- That's a bummer about Marshside. I had heard some not-so-great reviews since the reno (maybe from you! It was on this board.), but I was hoping they'd gotten their act together. I had been going there since they opened in the mid-70s. Nice, homey spot with killer views.
Ocean House is great!

re: tgseaver
For 10 I do not recommend a few places listed here. I think Ocean House would be perfect but it's not like a Clancy's. You are thinking of Marshside and honestly I know nada. The Squire is a pub. Red Pheasant IMHO too small for 10 and Swan River is not special really, just a basic tourist seafood spot. I think the Impudent Oyster would be packed in for 10...Go with the Ocean House and splurge...One other option I liked was Agrodolce in Brewster. It might be more in line of your price point and they could do a table for 10.
