Need LI Recommendations for Medford/Patchogue/Hauppage

  • 7

Hi,

I am going to be spending in some time in the Medford/Patchogue/Hauppage area over the next few weeks and am looking for some places to have a casual dinner by myself, places where it would be comfortable to have a solo dinner. Also, I am looking for places with reasonable prices ($15 entree would be the max). I would like to keep my drive time under 20 minutes each way. I have done a bunch of research on this board and here is what I have come up with so far.

Gyro Times in Northport
Pita House in East Satawket
Gyro Palace in Rocky Point
Del Fiore in Patchogue
Bobbique in Patchogue
La Margherita in Medford

I am hoping someone can recommend a good Chinese restaurant where I can get (very good and non-greasey) chicken fried rice. I would also be interested in recommendations for a good deli or two and also a recommendation for a good breakfast. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide in adding to my list.

yes, maureen's for sure. although it might be a little pricier, if you like sushi, kotobuki is the #1 zagat rated sushi on long island and their original location is in hauppage.

    2. Howards Pub in Patchogue (Waldbaums S/C on Sunrise/Waverly ave), price fixed burgers with two toppings with unlimited beer, wine or soda at about $11, includes the best home made fries and salad. Other plates for about the same price. And it's really good. Also in Patchogue village, lots of south American restaurants with great food for little money. Carlo's Pizza on Patchogue Holbrook Rd above Nichols Rd, great Italian pizzeria and meals (love the calamari).

For Chinese, and also Japanese, I suggest Tofu on Horseblock Rd in Farmingville as a destination, they are great, I dream of their sushi but husband always does the Chinese. Defintely not the usual greasy stuff. Also on Horseblock Rd, you have all the Portugese places, my favorite is Ole which is an authentic bar and grill. All of these places would fit your criteria for solo dining. Rocky Point, East Setauket, and especially Northport are more than 20 minutes, unless you have a private jet. BTW the original Pita House is right in Medford, on 112 just south of Woodside. Now that I can recommend!

Breakfast, the California Diner is popular right on Sunrise just west of Waverly. There is another great diner near Brookhaven Hospital, on Hospital Rd right at Sunrise Hwy, forget the name. Delis, I know the Sports Deli on Waverly Ave Holtsville just south of the Expressway is preferred at my office.

California Diner is a a decent standard diner. Satellite pizza on Montauk HWy in Bayport has great pizza and calzones. Mi Territa on Montauk Hwy in patchogue has big, tasty plates on Colombian Food, try the Bandeja Tipica. Pita House is yummy. The Oar House in Patchogue is beautiful, on the canal, but pricey. A nice place to get a drink and app at the bar. You might want to look at Sayville, 20 minutes away and lots of great restaurants.

I just wanted to follow up and give a report on my trip. Thanks to all of those with provided recommendations:

Bobbique in Patchogue - Pulled Pork sandwich with potato salad was terrific. This was one of the better meals on the trip.

Pita House in Medford - Went with the Shish Kabob sandwich which is steak, lettuce, onions, tomatoes and yogurt sauce in the side. It was a pretty good sandwich.

La Margherita in Medford - I had a small pizza from there one night and it was outstanding. I went there another week and had a pasta dish which wasn't very good. The staff here is super nice and very helpful.

How May Kitchen in East Patchogue - The wonton soup was terrific. The chicken dish I had wasn't very good. Something about the chicken didn't taste quite right. Meal also seemed a little oily.

Medford Pastaria in Medford - Meal was very good, but prices are a little high for what you get.

Jim's Deli in Brookhaven - Breakfast sandwich was terrific. Hero was pretty good, but breakfast sandwich was outstanding.
