Food Trucks in Palo Alto: Adobohobo, Lumpia Cart, and Creme Brulee Carts this Friday at Lunch!

Hi Hounds,

Following this thread I posted asking for advice about local food trucks you love: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/696401?tag=boards;topic-696401

I'd like to invite all the Peninsula hounds to come by my company's headquarters this Friday. We have started inviting yummy local food trucks to the unlikely locale of Palo Alto. Recent trucks have included @mogobbq, @chowdermobile, @pizzahacker, @jettcakes, etc.

This week is @Adobohobo, and @cremebruleecart. (Despite the title, the lumpia cart can no longer make it).

We're not sponsoring it or anything, we're actually just huge foodies and really like having some other lunch options in Palo Alto.

So here are the details:

What: Adobo and Creme Brulee for lunch
When: Friday, April 30 at 11:30 AM till when we run out!
Where: The address is 120 Hawthorne Ave in Palo Alto, a few blocks off of University.

Feel free to post any questions, and here's our yelp event with all the info:

Here's our google calendar with upcoming food trucks:

Or you can follow us on twitter @moxsie for our friday street eats updates... But note that we're a fashion company, so the rest of our tweets will be about fashion!

Also, happy to answer any questions!

    1. Thanks for hosting. Great food and even nicer people. Food was great on a wonderful spring day.

Looking forward to the next event. Keep us informed.

      Nice meeting you too.

      1. On a nice spring afternoon I had a order of chicken adobo, two wonderful taco and a chocolate creme burlee. The food was hot and in the case of the tacos cooked to order. The adobo had just the right flavor. The creme burlee was very good but it not no my diet but what the heck. Food was not cheap but well worth it.

Fresh food, the out doors and good company. Thanks Peter for the cream burlee now I owe you one.

I can hardly wait for the curry truck.

Thanks to thejulia for host this wonderful side walk event.

BTW my sons wanted to know how old I felt for someone now working they read my post when they were in College.

        1. Thanks to "thejulia" for the Friday street party!

I didn't get in line until nearly 12:30pm, and at that point, there were 16 people ahead of me. By the time I got close to the head, Adobo Hobo had run out of rice.

He said he's brought 100 orders of chicken. I did get to try it without rice. It's a milder style of adobo than I've had elsewhere.

While the chicken didn't send me, I did love the sisig tacos, $5, shown here. The tiny mince of chicharrones over top added richness and crunch to the tender pig parts. Nice crema, fresh peppers, and seasoning. It's all good.

The Creme Brulee guy was doing a brisk business. I heard that the last time he sold early and was more than prepared this week. Some of the customers were buying big orders, carrying stacks of tinned creme brulee back to their offices.

          1. Today, I stop by to try the Kung Fu tacos. Really like the idea of using Asian style cooked meats to make taco. The location is just a hop skip and jump from Fry's where I walk around after there Friday ads. What is better good food and upgrading ones computer.

Had the Asian Asade and Roast Duck tacos. Saw BBQ Pork tacos on the menu but did not order.

At 2 and 3 dollars(roast duck) each not price out of line but not that hard to make for yourself. But again it better if someone else does the work.

            1. re: yimster

Upgrading one's computer is a good thing. I recall "thejulia" saying she'd fashion you up the next time. New clothes to go with the new taste of the street food experience?

              1. re: Melanie Wong

There is a better chance for me to develop a taste for street food than develop a taste in fashion. It hard to change. I like being sloppy. But thejulia has a great taste in both food and fashion.

            2. i went last week for curry up now and it was rather disasterous. they were having problems with their rice cookers, and possibly the curry too, so i ended up waiting about 40 minutes for lunch. I got gummy, goey rice with hard centers, and rather watery and mediocre curry. i was so disappointed. the SO really liked his ritual coffee creme brulee from the creme brulee guy though.

              1. re: artemis

The shrimp curry over rice was not anything I would go back for. The rice was not cook right, which took away from the dish. So far the creme brulee was great and both tacos were good and interesting. The Adobo hobo was OK, but I have had better but very enjoyable. Kung Fu taco truck has given me a lot of ideas to try soon. The idea of combine foods is great.

I am waiting for he Korean Taco truck (if I remember right) and the Chowder guy. I am sure there will be hit and misses. So I guess we will have to be selective.

              2. Working in Palo Alto, there are plenty of choices of restaurants but after a few years -- they all get "old" -- it is then down to the 100 Mediterranean places down University, the Asian Joints. Having said that -- I am lucky to be working in PA where you can just walk to a restaurant of your choice. It is like having a 500 channels on TV and complaining there is nothing to watch :-)

It is great to have found the Street Eats carts hosted by the guys from Moxsie, com on Fridays. I don't check the sched but just land up there wondering what I am going to get next !!

We've had the lobster roll, the Adobo hobo with their amazing crunchy/soft tacos, the different flavors of creme brulee, the Korean Sliders, and the hand made pizzas -- a surprise every week

I have to give it to these vendors -- from the fire to your mouth -- most of it is freshly made in front of your eyes -- aka pizza and it is a labor of love from each and everyone of them. "Try this ", they say. "Check out this new item " I hear, "Have a bite of this and let me know ? "

Frankly it feels like I was at my home and that of my relatives when I was growing up -they cooked new dishes often and by and large there were more hits than misses and this is exactly what I feel about the food I have tasted at these carts -- and for 3-5 dollars it means more to me than the money I spent.

So if you are not too far from PA and have time for lunch on Friday just drive up to the Street food gig at Moxsie's location and be surprised.

                1. Today I returned to the friday street party at Moxsie.

Arriving just before noon, I hit the maximum wait for the Curry Up Now truck, as shown here,
                  http://www.flickr.com/photos/melaniewong/4691961221/

I'll have to say that some of these truck operators should intern themselves to some of the experienced taco trucks to learn logistics of order-taking and knocking out orders more quickly. In this case, the order taker was in no hurry to take orders and money since the grill was backed up. But I would suggest that the cashier should still hustle so that customers don't have to stand in the line in the hot sun for so long. I would have appreciated being able to get my order in and then get out of line to check out the other vendors or mingle with the crowd. Just a suggestion.

I tried the beef kathi roll which was pretty good. The roti, in particular, used to wrap it was quite good. This was priced at $6.75 on the posted menu, but I was only charged $6. The mango lassi was already sold out.
                  http://www.flickr.com/photos/melaniewong/4691961217

Another suggestion: I might have purchased a chai if that vendor had come over to the truck line to take orders or offer her samples.

I also got a salted almond and chocolate ice cream sandwich, $4, from San Francisco Constructions. The ice cream wasn't very chocolatey, and I probably would have enjoyed the cookies more on their own.

                  1. re: Melanie Wong

I agree with take on service. Which is why I arrived early each time to place my order before the line get back up.

Today I was four in line and got my curry chicken roti wrap ane it was wonderful. Not being a chai or sweets peroon I pass on both.

Would have more from this truck again.

Also they arrive late and was still setting up at 11:30 and did not start taking orders untill at 11:45. Most of the other vendor were there ready at the promise starting time or at least was make the office order.

Lastly parking is much easliry if you arrive early too.
