big disappointment at char 4
went to char 4 with a lot of expectation. our party was particularly excited about the BLT, which has since been removed from the menu.
the bacon appetizer and the ham and cheese gave us a taste of the house-smoke meats, but they were nothing to write home about. beyond extra salt-and-smoke, these dishes were otherwise flavorless. the crab-soup was virtually inedible: thick and mealy, it tasted like someone had added bbq sauce to an otherwise poorly-made chowder.
while the restaurant boosts a great bourbon/whiskey selection the mixed drink that i sampled was more than juice than liquor, and i think i've had better cocktails served up at my local dive-bar for much less the price.
what's the deal?

re: the_state
Well, they have bourbon mixed drinks/cocktails and the ham and cheese puff app things are a house specialty.
I'll be the second to say that I was very underwhelmed by my dinner at this place a couple of months ago. But others I know give it a big thumbs up, particularly for brunch, so maybe I'm missing something.

re: the_state
apparently the new ham and cheese sandwich is going to be featured in ny mag as one of their signature dishes. my friend ordered the mixed cocktail--a choice that i believe is perfectly appropriate. the point is that, for the price, it wasn't comparable to other cocktails in the area i.e. (prime meats, buttermilk channel etc). for house-smoked meat/bbq fair and a good bourbon selection, i'd rather go to fette sau in wburg.
