Ski Shores...Dismal Visit
I went on Friday night soooooo excited my sunny day staple was finally open again.
We got there around 5:30 and the place was about half empty (LOTS more tables than before) and found our favorite picnic table was open, the one opposite the band on the deck right on the water.
You now are taken by a hostess, which lead me to believe we wouldn't need to flag down a waitress. We waited...and waited...and waited. About 15 minutes after we arrived, we finally got a waitress. We ordered two beers and a margarita (top shelf and not cheap), two burgers and wings. Another 15 minutes and we got the beers with the margarita arriving after another 5 minutes. About 30 minutes later the food arrived. Burgers are named the same but are NOT the same. Yucky frozen patties, sad toppings, pre-fab okra.
Now, the wings. Bit into my first wing and while it appeared fried on the outside, it was not only under-cooked, it was COLD RAW! I kept trying to flag down our waitress and asked several others to help to no avail. She finally arrived after the others had finished their burgers (my sweet husband shared some of his with me so I wouldn't go completely hungry). When I showed her, she looked like a deer in headlights and just walked away with the raw wings. ??? She came back about 5 minutes later and said she would take them off my bill (was that ever even a question?).
We had asked for another beer right when the food was served and still hadn't gotten them but she said they had already been added to the bill and were coming. So we waited and waited some more. (btw, the $9 margarita was in one of those little clear plastic cups and was mostly ice)
We asked for the owner and were told they weren't there (wait, what? the owner isn't here on the second Friday after opening???) We asked for the manager and he arrived about the time the second beer came.
Granted, this was the second Friday they've been open, but he looked irritated he even needed to come to our table. He dismissively said, "Yeah, you're the one who got the undercooked RINGS."
"No, I got raw wings."
"Well, we did just get 200 people".
"We'd just would hate y'all to go the way Good Eats did, expanding too quickly."
"Well, we won't" and he got up and walked off. That's it. He then just got up and walked away.
(uhm, we arrived and ordered before you got slammed, but that's beside the point - you served me raw wings and aren't even the least bit concerned).
The bill for two burgers (no wings), two margaritas and two beers came to $50ish, but left a very bad taste in our mouths. Such a pity, because we used to go every pretty weekend.
It's now my understanding that the new Ski Shores is in NAME ONLY. The Levy Family used to run the place and make the awesome pizza and burgers were not given their lease and that the owner of the property is pretending to be them and bamboozle us customers into believing our beloved Ski Shores is back up and running. I'm here to say I never would have had this experience at the "Old Ski Shores". Everyone then cared about the customers. Even if it was a little slow and campy, it was always fun, friendly and the food was really great last year.
Was there Sunday. Parking lot was full, and most of the tables were full. The waiter showed up within 30 seconds of sitting down, and was never more than a minute away the whole time I was there. Also there were extra waiters circulating, filling water cups and topping off iced teas.
My burger was excellent; though I agree it was probably $1.50 more than I remember. The fries were gross, but then I hate fries coated with suspicious substances. The waiter asked for my order so quickly that I didn't realize I had a choice between fries and cole slaw, and he didn't offer; my only real quibble.
Hopefully their service will even out after they get through the first few weeks.
