Starting New Job in Sausalito. Lunch places?

  • k

I'm starting a new job in Sausalito next week and will be reverse commuting from SF. Really excited about the new job but worried about how I will survive without Kitchenette, Local Mission Eatery, and all of the great Vietnamese, Chinese and Korean restaurants in the City. I've heard about Fish and La Garage. Any other good take-out lunch places? How about good ethnic food?

  1. Sausalito Bakery & Cafe
    571 Bridgeway
Way better than it needs to be considering the tourist location. Quite good. Frittata is very good.

    Salsalito Taco Shop
    1115 Bridgeway
chowhound report: 2 amazing crispy, fried fish tacos, 1 carnitas taco, and 3 types of salsa, chips & guac; excellent

    Cibo
    1201 Bridgeway
converted-industrial-space look, very good paninis, etc.

    Thai Terrace
    1001 Bridgeway (second level)
    Better-than-usual Thai food.

    Kitty’s Place
    3001 Bridgeway
Thai-influenced food from a Thai family. I've enjoyed it infrequently over several years.

I've had many lunches there over the years. It varies from pretty good to great.

    Mollie Stone's
    100 Harbor Drive
Supermarket with deli. Pretty good made-to-order carved-meat sandwiches. Most of their pre-made sandwiches are forgettable except the North Beach which is non-gourmet SF dry salami, cheese, roasted peppers, etc. on a baguette; a guilty pleasure of mine. Some of their deli salads are very good, others not so. The Moroccan Eggplant salad (as much a condiment as salad) is one of my favorites.

Sartaj India Cafe is good in a funky, homey way. They also have good pie.

I heard Golden Gate Market has good sandwiches but haven't been.

Are you going to have a car?

Anyway, take a chance and stop by a new place every day and report back. I've found that most of the time you'll be pleasantly suruprised.

    2. Mollie Stone's was a go-to for sandwiches and there is also an amazing (nameless?) tiny burger place that a rotating charcoal grill.

There is also a great Indian place a little up the 1 towards strawberry village if you can make time. Near an auto dealership - sorry for the forgotten names, but maybe someone can help me remember...

Whenever I think of Sausalito I think of that burger place! I don't remember the name either, but it's on the main drag, and as you're coming from SF it's before the road makes a 90-degree turn to run along the waterfront. They pride themselves on grinding the beef in-house, fresh every day, and you can see the burgers on the rotating grill right in the front window - that's how I always find it.

It was called Hamburgers and I thought it has been gone for a couple of years. Checking Yelp though I see Hamburgers at 737 Bridgeway. Go on a nice day and eat outside, I don't remember any tables.

There used to be (probably still are) a few small tables in the back of the 737 Bridgeway burger place. Good burgers.

Note: I can't get it to not put the Bridgeway Cafe link below.

        2. You are one lucky person! Fred's coffee shop at 1917 Bridgeway is a homey diner type place with good burgers. They would probably fix to -go orders?

(I dont know why Bridgeway cafe came up on my post)

          1. You need to go to Poggio, sit at the bar and enjoy a pizza or salad at lunch. Also, LeGarage is a SF transplant with equally good food. Some of the others mentioned I would avoid (Salsalito in particular). Finally, FISH is not cheap but you can manage a clam chowder and a salad at lunch.

            1. Hello. Fish and Le Garage are good. Sushi Ran for Sushi is awesome!!!! Poggio is good. Farley Bar at Cavallo Point is good. For Indian - Avatar is good. Buckeye Roadhouse is not too far away. Cafe Trieste is good for Pizza, Salads Etc. Sausalito Taco Shop is nice, especially on a nice day. Piccolo Teatro is an option for Italian. Sausalito Gourmet Deli on Caledonia is good for sandwhiches and has a nice outdoor garden. Kitti's for chicken salad. Thai Terrace is also pretty good.
