substitute for salt pork?

I'm making a recipe for New England clam chowder that calls for Salt Pork.
I can't seem to find Salt Pork anywhere. Is bacon a reasonable substitute?

    IMHO, bacon is better.

If you don't mind the smoke flavor try smoked ham hocks or turkey wings. BTw, I find most chain supermarkets have salt pork.

        Bacon is fine.
Worked in a restaurant and used only bacon and their clam chowder was the talk of the town at the time. .
