There's nothing quite like New York style, but Howie's Artisan Pizza in Palo Alto is influenced by New York style and is my favorite in the area.

Other New York-style gas-oven pizzas of note include Giovanni's in Sunnyvale and A Slice of New York in San Jose. The latter is mostly takeout as it's a tiny place with about 4 seats inside.

A Slice of New York has a new location in Sunnvyvale that is larger and more comfortable than the original, with eat-in seating as well as takeout. The food quality seems the same to me in both locations.

What style are you thinking when you say NY? There is a Ray's style (by the slice) place in San Carlos called Speederia. It's better than any of the Ray's in NY, which isn't saying much these days. But check out Speederia, it's good.

When they say ny style pizza, they are referring to a thin crust pizza. As for rays in nyc, there is the "first" rays on spring street which is thin and delicious. Not to be confused with copycat names with the word original in them.

Seems to get short shrift fom the people here, but in my opinion Amici's is as good or better than any of the places recommended so far.
