Birthday Suggestion Needed for 8 People

My wife is turning 35 and I am planning to take her out with our whole family. We had great success the last two years with Tomi Kro and Tatti Bistro. They both cater to that many people at one table, they have a "steak" on the menu (which satisfies our dad's who don't eat anything but meat & potatoes) and they are both fairly reasonably priced. We also love the Harbord Room, but I don't think it works for 8 people.

Any suggestions? We are fairly open to location - would be prefer to try something new(ish).

Thanks so much!

Sidecar on College. Reasonably priced, great vibe, very good food, excellent cocktails and they have a terrific steak frites on the menu. :)

Funny, a few people have mentioned it to me since this posting. Sounds like a great option. Thanks

Sidecar keeps increasing the price of the prix fixe. When they started, it was $22. It was $25 last I looked. Nice patio, tho.

I don't know where you're situated, but Trio, on Yonge, north of Lawrence, has a very well rounded menu, does wonderful salads, pizzas and pastas, but also has a thorough menu of meat, poultry and fish. The service is pleasant and you should have no problem getting a reservation if you get on it right away. They have a wood burning oven and the bread for the table is warm from the oven. The pizza option is nice because one can be ordered for the table as an appetizer, then everyone can move on to mains of their choice, if you wish.

Ha, that's exactly what I do at Trio, as well. We order a margherita pizza to share as an app, then get other stuff for mains. :)

Trio just opened a second floor for private parties and weekend overflow. The space looks great, so you could easily book part of that space for your party.

Globe on the Danforth would be able to host a group of your size without any issues. They have steak on the menu and a range of other more exicting items as well all in a very nice space.

Thanks all. I've been to Trio and it's great. Just looking to be a bit more downtown. I am now deciding between Sidecar and Harbord Room. Globe looks great but a little too pricey for this crowd. I'll let you know how it goes!

The Harbord Room is pretty tiny so if you want to go there you might try booking early for a group -- we had to wait a couple of weeks just to get two of us in on a reservation.

Maybe Le Select? It's not new-ish, but it might suit the group??

I booked Sidecar, but also waiting on Harbord Room. Harbord doesn't seem that keen on my reservation. Not a fan of Le Select. I think the food is very average if not below average. Thanks!

We honestly thought Harbord Room was blowing us off for weeks -- it was hard to get a table even with a week or two notice. But when we finally got in and saw the room -- it's the tiniest place. Like, maybe 10 tables tops? They are really friendly actually-- just smaaall....Sidecar is great. Good vibe, great cocktails, competent food and very friendly staff.

we had two seatings of 8ppl for a chow meet and they didn't seem to be ignoring the organizer... seemed like there was quite a bit of conversation actually as they were offering a set menu as well. perhaps they've learned it is too much of a hassle for them since then.
