Hot dogs in North Raleigh?

We think Roast Grill hot dogs are the best. Period. :-)

But sometimes we want a couple of hot dogs closer to home, in North Raleigh. Any suggestions? Thanks!

My husband likes those. I could be the only person in Raleigh who doesn't like much of anything at Char Grill. :-|

There is suppose to be a good one in downtown Wake Forest if that isn't too much of a drive... I think it was called Shorty's(?) Can anyone comment on that?

Shorty's in WF has a loyal following but from my part of N Raleigh it's a good 20 -30 minute drive. That's not really different from going downtown to the Roast Grill. Also, depending on what you consider a good hot dog, you may be disappointed in Shorty's. I was more than disappointed. The one time I ate there I literally felt ill afterwards and have no desire to return. I consider a good hot dog to be along the lines of Hebrew National, Boar's Head, or Sabretts. Shorty's isn't even in the same universe.

Thanks for the responses. I think we'll just stick with Roast Grill. Besides, I'm sure George would miss us if we showed up less often. ;-)

There is a Snoopy's in the plaza at Spring Forest and Atlantic.

When we lived there we liked the dogs at Kloos Coney Island. It was in Mission Valley close to the university. This was several years back though.

Cloo's is excellent in West Raleigh.

Snoopy's is awful. Cheap, limp, pale hot dog. I know people who grew up on them like them, but they're nothing special. Served with a yellow mustard packet on the side? Get a better dog (Sabrett's) in Lowe's parking lot.

OP requested North Raleigh...Only hot dog places in N.R. I know of are Snoopy's and I have seen one in the shopping center kind of N. of Triangle Town Center, but have not tried them.

I tried the dog in that place north of Triangle Town Center. It was nothing special. I don't know of a good dog in N. Raleigh.

Lowe's Home Improvement at Millbrook and Capital.
Guy has an excellent cart with kraut and spicy mustard.

I've seen dog carts at a lot of the Lowe's around town. They all seem to be pretty similar - Sabrett's or Nathan's dogs with a variety of toppings.

Suzy Q! Where you been, girl? ::-) I haven't "seen you" in a while. We used to get hot dogs like that at Home Depot. They aren't Roast Grill, but they're pretty good. They might become our Saturday dogs.

Yeah, it's pretty slim for good hot dogs in the area. The right place in North Raleigh
            could be a goldmine.

FIVE GUYS makes a good dog.
