special occasion restaurant in Bermuda
My husband and I are heading to Bermuda in a week. We'll be staying at the Princess Southhampton and are looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. We are from NYC and have a pretty high food standard. Food is more important than atmosphere but would like it to be a special place. We are willing to spend $, but I'd prefer to stay under $400 for the whole dinner. Any suggestions? Thanks so much in advance!
Congratulations on your anniversary! I hope that your visit here will be a wonderful time together.
With regards to food, I have eaten often in NYC and I will say that the level here is not comparable to some of the top places there (Le Bernardin, EMP, etc) unfortunately. But having said that, for such a small island, Bermuda has definitely done quite well without having any "celebrity chefs" and also having most of our food stuffs shipped in.
For food, I would suggest Harry's (high end steakhouse) has pretty decent food and if the weather is nice, they have a few tables outside you can dine at. Fourways and Ascots both have solid kitchens but are more old world in their feeling and are usually quite consistent (although I have not dined there within the last year). Harbourfront is also quite nice and has a nice view of the harbour, mixed menu of sushi and continental. If you go, request a table outside on the deck if the weather is nice. Barracuda is also solid food although lacking in charm, it's quite dark inside unfortunately, they focus on seafood and steak).
For other dining, I'd suggest Pearl sushi in town. Get a table outside and enjoy watching traffic putter by and the ships in the harbour. I liken their style of sushi to Masa/Nobu/Morimoto. And if I may suggest, try their Pearl rockfish sashimi which I found to be tastier and a better deal than a similar rockfish sashimi appetizer at Masa.
Hope this helps and if you need additional dining suggestions, write back. Always happy to help out a fellow Chowhounder!
Heading to Bermuda in a few months and it sounds like we have similar standards when it comes to restaurants. I am curious where you ended up and what your recommendations would be for a fellow foodie. Did you go to either Tucker's Point or Beau Rivage? What other spots would you recommend? Any advice is appreciated.
