Quark in Connecticut?

Anyone know where to buy Quark in standard grocery venues in Connecticut? If not, specialty spots in the shoreline area?

I would check your local Stop & Shop also. I can remember seeing it there years ago. Are you close to Cromwell? Wild Raspberry in the plaza, ask for Jill. If they do not carry it then they can def order it for ya. WF would def hav the VBC.

It would be an easy order for them. They are great people. I wish I was still up that end of the state for a trust worthy cheese person. Quick story, I've been in the cheese buying biz also, but went to there now defunct West hartford store to check things out. Jill blew absolutely no smoke up my arse. Would not sell me anything that was not ready. Great palate, honest and good pricing. Great people.

You should be able to buy Quark from Vermont Butter and Cheese Company at any Whole Foods. Milford, Stamford, Westport.

My closest WF is Glastonbury and I've never looked there. I love quark and only found it in California at a farmers' market (lemon quark, no less--it was outstanding). This is great to know. I had asked a local place if they could get some for me, but it never came to pass and they're now out of biz. Thanks for the info.

few, where did you learn about quark (since no one around here seemed to know about it)? :) I loved it when I tried it.

cheesemonger, do other purveyors sell flavored quark, or whatever I found at the farmers' market back when, was that someone's clever spin on it? It sure was delicious.

        EDIT: AHA! This is it!

Lemon quark is Spring Hill Cheese's clever spin on this stuff for sure!

VBC makes real quark- if you want to flavor it- don't add lemon juice, add finely grated lemon zest- the acid of juice will make it curdle, and the texture will be icky.

Keep in mind that Spring Hill is probably not available locally for you, but VBC likely is.

As for knowing about Quark- I've been in cheese for over 10 years. It's my entire life, and Quark is a form of fresh cheese, aka coagulated milk.

            Hi there,
Just a quick update. Whole Foods in Glastonbury does NOT currently carry quark, but they have other VBCC products and are thinking of carrying it soon.

Also, few, you probably know this already--Fromage in OS does NOT carry it anymore.
