A delicious French dip?
Hello--I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a really good French Dip in the Minneapolis area? My standard bearer is the one at the Pickwick in Duluth--very medium rare nice roast beef, good bread, and flavorful au jus. I had a dip at Ike's the other day, and it seemed like they took their regular (quite tasty) roast beef sandwich, microwaved the beef, and then put it on a french roll. Disappointing, and--I think--not uncommon. Anyone have a favorite around here? Thanks for any help!
The best roast beef sandwich in town is probably the "Beef on Weck" at Crossroads Delicatessen in Minnetonka. See http://www.crossroadsdelicatessen.com/ for more info. It's highly flavorful beef carved right in front of you, served with au jus, horseradish sauce and cole slaw. It's only available at lunch M-F.

Wally's Roast Beef in Bloomington (90th and Penn) if you're on the south side of the City.
A French Dip isn't on the menu, but the Italian Beef at Brianno's in Eagan (again favors the south side/south metro) has the components and could easily be customized (minus horseradish which, to me is essential with roast beef). When you order it, they take excellent beef -- medium rare -- and swim it in a vat of au jus for a while before putting it on the sandwich with the cheese and giardinera. I'm certain that if you asked, they would give you a cup of the au jus and leave off the accoutrements.
