Now that Dunkin' Donuts is everywhere, its almost impossible to find an independent donut shop. I know of Donut Dugout on 46 in Fairfield, what else is out there?

Obco's Old Fashioned on Fischer Blvd in Toms River.

Delicious Orchards is not a doughnut shop but makes their own apple cider doughnuts.

I don't have a degree from Rutgers or elsewhere <g>, but there was a Mickey's Donutland on Rt. 18 South in East Brunswick, before the Hess station, more or less in the parking lot of the strip mall that now contains Kohl's. It closed, I'd guess, in the late 1990's (?) (vaguely recall an Italian place there afterward)- and with the road work done in the area -new lights and jughandles- not sure if the building is even still there but I don't travel 18 often these days.

There was another, larger Mickey's on the other side of 18, next door to the McDonald's near Race Track Rd., at one time. Think there was a sub shop and/or bagel shop in that building later.

Mickey's, however, was a chain rather than "independent" - tho' I have no idea how large it was.

every time I drive by (daily) and my wife is in the car, I always say 'you know there used to be a Mickey's donut land there (still remember the box a kid looking through a donut).

My grandfather would go every sunday there. I miss that place.

it's an italian restaurant now...(with a carrabas thats always packed, directly in front of it now..)

          sad.

            3148 Asbury Avenue
            Ocean City, NJ 08226-2230

It's a seasonal shop, closed during the winter. Tender Jelly and Yeast donuts (glazed and chocolate icing), but with a perfect exterior toothiness when fresh. Super Cinnamon Rolls.

The Marlboro Bake Shop in Montclair, a relic of an old school bakery, does a decent donut.
