Hartford/West Hartford area moderately priced restaurant with good food

I have several friends coming to the Hartford/West Hartford area for a concert. Before the concert we would like to have a light dinner in a moderately priced restaurant in the Hartford/West Hartford area. Does anyone have any ideas?

I would suggest the Corner Pug. Their menu has many items under $15 and it's only a couple miles away from St. Josephs.

I am debating among the Corner Pug, Wood n Tap, or Max Burger. Which do you think is best?

I have not been to Max Burger, Wood n Tap is also good, but I would recomend the Corner Pug. To me they have a better variety and the prices are very reasonable. The mac n cheese and also the fish n chips are very good among many others.

The Wood n Tap has some amazing burgers- just went last week for the bison sliders (terrific!). However, I find the rest of the menu (non-burger) items are somewhat limited (I can't get my teenage daughter or he friends to step in the place), or at least limited to "bar food". I think Corner Pug is slightly more upscale in the food department. Max Burger it also terrific for burgers and bar food, and the atmosphere is fun.

Such a tough choice! If you throw in Plan B on Park St., you have our 4 favorite (moderately priced!) burger restaurants! This weekend is supposed to be warm and sunny. You can sit outside at Plan B, Max B (I think), and the Wood n Tap in Farmington (deck/pond). I bet West Hartford Center will be packed w/diners and strollers this weekend...so maybe try Max Burger!

One more that fits the OP's price point. Reuben's Deli is not as good as any of the NY delis but is pretty good for this area and not too far from the concert. Monte Alban will work if anyone in your group likes Mexican. Have fun. Let us know where you ended up and how it went.

None of the above. Add Plan B to the list.

The Half Door, very good pub food with better burgers than Plan B which one day can cook em just right and the next day overcook everything.

I wholeheartedly disagree. I live about 300 feet from Half Door so I've tried their burgers many times out of convenience, and they aren't even in the same league as Plan B's.

I live in West Hartford. We have a HUGE variety of "moderately priced" restaurants. Can you give us more info? What kind of food and vibe are you looking for? What do you mean by "moderate"?

For example, the Pond House is in a beautiful setting. I would take friends there if we were going to a classical music type concert. Lady Gaga? Not so much. Furthermore, I don't consider the Pond House "moderately priced". It can be pricey. I do consider The Elbow Room moderate, with decent food and a nice, pre- (rock) concert vibe. The Corner Pug is good, also. Or maybe The Counter or Max Burger. My kids and I had a great meal at Elements a couple of days ago.

If you can spend more, you open up WAY more possibilities, but times are tough and concerts are expensive. Hope you have fun!

Is there anything around with entrees priced around $15?

I think Corner Pug is a good suggestion for the group you describe. Also, Tapas is a very short distance from there and also very reasonable. A little more adventurous Mediterranean oriented menu, and you certainly wouldn't leave hungry!

I'll throw out there....East West Grill on New Park Avenue. Fantastic Lao-Thai food (but they have loads of other delicious sort of pan-Asian offerings).

reasonably priced and they now serve beer (and I think wine)

              O'Porto http://www.oportohartford.com/

Pond House Cafe in beautiful Elizabeth Park http://www.pondhousecafe.com/

              Effie's Place http://www.effiesplace.net/

These are all on the Htfd/W Htfd line. Depending on where the concert is there are a number of great restaurants both in downtown Hartford and in West Hartford Center. If these menus aren't what you're looking for post again.

I wouldn't send my dog to have dinner at effie's place. pond house is a good choice. then there are the 100 or so places in west hartford center. For aldente1-where is the concert, how much do want to spend, are you a foodie, looking for something quick or cheap. more info needed.

Hi--The concert is at St. Joseph's College. My friends are coming from Branford but I live in West Hartford. I'm the foodie in the group, but the others are less adventurous and less willing to pay the prices at Bricco's, Grants, and Max's Oyster Bar. Thanks for your suggestions. A restaurant which had entrees priced at $15 or so, would be about right.

Harry's Bishop Corner is right there and does a nice pie.

O'Porto has a 3-course special for $20. going on right now.
