Litchfield/Pawleys - What's new and what's still great?

We're heading down to Litchfield next week and were wondering what the best places are these days. When we were there last time we tried out an interesting African place which turned out to be great. Is it still there? Where can you get the best Oysters Rockefeller? Any tips?

I am going in May and I have Franks and Salt Creek on my list plus Thomas's in Georgetown if I can squeeze it in.

Is Orobosa opening a new place or has he been closed for the season? What was the name of his last restaurant?

We had a great visit to Litchfield and had some good food along the way. While I llike a nice little fancy pants place as much as any Chowhound (or do I?), we went to a couple of old-school seafood places including Russell's in Murrells Inlet, which while it did not have the best Oysters Rockefeller ever, ended up being one of my favorite finds. It's so nice and unpretentious - the service was excellent, everyone was very friendly and it was perfect for basics like oysters on the half shell and fried seafood, iike soft-shell crab. Would definitely go back. If you're looking for a fun place to have lunch or an early dinner with a view try the poolside bar at the Litchfield Inn. They seem to share the kitchen with Oceans One upstairs and have some very good poolside food. I had the crab cake with succotash and it was excellent. Definitely worth trying. A hidden gem. We also tried Oceans One upstairs. The view is spectacular and the food was very good. It's a wee bit too stuffy for me, though. Ditto with High Hammock at the Hammock Shops. Nice food, but perhaps I've just outgrown fine dining recently. Their porch is great. I definitely want to try Salt Creek and Chive Blossom on my next visit, but it just didn't happen this time. Thanks for the recommendations, though.

Chive Blossom rules! Hands down the best resto in the Litchfield area.

Went to Chive Blossom on Feb 12 and agree it is fantastic. I really liked High Hammock (never been a real Frank's fan) but Chive Blossom is a whole 'nother level. I had the Duck Confit appetizer which was transcendental -- sweet glazed nuts, salty/rich duck meat, arugala, and sweet potato strings -- may sound weird but it really worked. Paired that with the Crab Crepes (I was going to have them with the She Crab Soup and the server talked me out of it -- she was oh so right.) My companion had the Cioppino which he loved (thought he found the aioli on the crostini a bit bitter.) It was a wonderful Pawley's experience and well worth the cost (about $100 including four glasses of wine.) We also checked out a new place, Sanfords, in Litchfield (behind the Bi-Lo across the street from the Litchfield Golf and Beach resort on 17.) Only open about 5 weeks according to a bartender but a great happy hour ($2 drafts and $5 chicken wings served with chips!.) We had dinner there on Sunday night and it was very good. They smoke their own meats (sounds pornographic but you know what I mean.) The brisket was excellent and their hushpuppies were out of this world (unless you don't like sweet and puffy.)
