i'm with bosmer on this one--i've never had anything less than stellar at Nisi...they've got a sunday though thursday prix-fix menu now...3 courses/$29 ...Great choices including:
Apps:: ketefi wrapped seas scallops with lemon sauce, greek salad, or soup;
Mains: Grilled fish (bronzini when i was there), and greens, Pasta, and a chicken dish; Dessert: baklava, greek yogurt w/strawberry preserves or rice pudding
Everything was fabulous, and for 30 bucks, you can't go wrong.›4 Replies-

re: fishfroggy
I don't know why there's all the big buzz about Nisi. It looks like a wedding hall, it's pretentious, and it's overpriced.
You'd do much better at Oceano's or Axia.
Also, try Velo in Nyack.. New American, a wonderful place.

re: fishfroggy
sorry about the bad info on the prix fix- is it cut out entirely? i find it buzz worthy because i've yet to order anything there that wasn't perfect...Axia disappointed me once 2 years ago and I havent' been back and i still haven't tried oceano's ...
hope the meal was decent enough (even if pricey)

If you're doing brunch, generally before 3, there will be a few choices. Between 3 and 5, you won't find anything.
Before 3:
Harvest Bistro, Closter. A gorgeous environment with nicely prepared creative food.
http://www.harvestbistro.com/Mediterraneo , Ridgewood provides a unique blend of European and Mediterranean fusion foods. Really good.
And, within close proximity if you travel slightly over the NY border, my top pick would be Velo in Nyack. 4 stars in every way!
P.S. I think Nisi is greatly overrated, overpriced, and ultimately mediocre

re: menton1
Harvest Bistro has notoriously horrid service and the food is fair to poor.
Mediterraneo is quite enjoyable but is by no means an upscale restaurant as the OP requested.
Nisi operates at a much higher quality level; fresh seafood, excellent service, unpretentious management, and a creative chef.

re: Bosmer
I respectfully disagree.
Opulence, large rooms, big chandeliers and high prices don't make for "upscale". I think Mediterraneo is definitely leaning upscale. It's just small.
I've had good experiences at Harvest.
Velo is the best of the bunch, if you go to Nyack.
