Baltimore to james madison University on Tuesday
HI all, doing a quick turn to visit the last college before my daughter's final decision. We arrive at BWI airport at 8 am, grab a car, but do not have to be at the university until 1 pm. We will be hungry so am looking for suggestions on whether to take our time in the Baltimore area, or head straight to the university area (some 2.5 hours away). I have never been in this area and am afraid the JMU area might be limited. have the same issue coming back for dinner. We will be done around 3:30 but our flight out is not until 8 pm so am also looking for dinner recs in the Baltimore area.Any suggestions would be great. Looking for reasonably priced food, not gourmet (daughter a little finicky) but she can always find something she likes. probably stay away from ethnic cuisine just to be safe.
Thanks,

Be sure to eat at Kline's Ice Cream in Harrisonburg. It might just be the thing that makes your daughter chose JMU!

If you get back to BWI with time for dinner after your whirlwind day, you should consider the Little Spice Thai restaurant in Hanover. It's excellent, well-priced, and less than 5 minutes from the BWI rental car return facility.

Agreed that the drive might be more than you expect and you might want to head straight there and back. Sorry. But Harrisonburg should have some good options. There is also a lot of stuff right off of 66 that is quick. In a pinch right off 66 in Fairfax is a huge Whole Foods that has a nice prepared food section and salad bars. And there is also Five Guys. You could probably get a quick crabcake at G&M they are pretty fast.

As a JMU alumni there are some really good food options downtown in Harrisonburg. What kind of food are you looking for?
Jack Browns- Beer and Burger Joint
Has great American Wagyu burgers. And definitely try a fried oreo. The place is very small but it makes it even better.Dave's Taverna
Delicious food. All kinds but they consider themselves a Greek place. I would reccommend the steak and cheese on a pita.Clementines
A little more sit down and less college feel. Great food here also amazing beer selections.-----

You might want to plan for more than 2.5hrs of driving to get from BWI to JMU. I think 3 hrs would be about right IF you don't run into any traffic. What day of the week will you be arriving here? I ask this because traffic can make a huge difference in transit times going around the beltway ( I-495)

G and M Restaurant in Linthicum, not to far from the airport has good crabcakes. Also Snyders of Willow Grove, (I believe in Linthicum) has a large menu and has good food and if you drive to Catonsville, The Catonsville Gourmet has really good food as well.
