I love fried oysters!! The best I've had are at Seawitch on Rte. 1 N, Peabody. It's not a fancy place....has a seafood market next door....but the fr.oysters are fantastic!
For fried clams I love The Causeway, Rte.133 E, Gloucester. Unbelievably large portions and wonderful clams. Also Farnhams in Essex.
Good Luck!

Clams: I think the best overall clam shack experience is the Clam Box on Route 1A in Ipswich, but if you're just talking quality of clam by itself, I lean towards the Hingham Lobster Pound on Route 3A in Hingham.
Oysters: Allstonian and I had some spectacular fried oysters at Tupelo recently. Perfectly fried and delicious.
Frittura mista: I recuse myself because I never order this. It usually just ends up being almost all calamari, and if I have a taste for deep-fried squid, I'm going to Chinatown.

THE BEST fried clams, and i have tried most of the shacks from here to Bar Harbour, are at Mikes Roast Beef in Everett Ma. On Rt 99 between Sullivan and the rotary. dirctly across from Honda of Boston. While you are there you can get the best roast beef sandwich

Gotta agree with you Barmy on the Hingham Lobster Pound - & their onion rings are probably some of the best I've ever had. They salt their fried food perfectly so make sure you taste before you put any extra salt on. Now that I think of it, I may need to take my 1st road trip of the year there next Saturday! : )
