Looking for recommendations - MSP -> Watertown, SD -> Fargo/Moorhead [Moved from Minneapolis-St. Paul Board]

I'm taking a short trip - leaving the Twin Cities early Friday morning, getting to Watertown, SD about lunchtime, and then leaving Watertown for Fargo in the evening, and then back to MSP Saturday evening.

I haven't been able to find much info about these small towns and kinda sparsely-populated in-between areas, so I'm looking for suggestions:

- Something for breakfast between here and Watertown.
- Lunch and maybe dinner in Watertown or between there and Fargo.
- Anything between Fargo and MSP.

I haven't been able to find a lot of info - especially menus or reviews - and especially in the in-between areas - little towns on the way from one stop to the other. So, anyone have a favorite restaurant on the way to/from any of these places? Bonus points for somewhere with phenomenal pie...

Thanks,
Greg.

Keep in mind that the Dakotas, and that portion of your route, are now covered by a different board - the Great Plains board - so you will find recommendations there rather than on the Great Lakes forum. Also don't forget to try searching the General Midwest Archive forum, which contains older topics from before the Great Plains and Great Lakes forums were created.

I just got back from a short trip to Fargo from the Twin Cities, and like you I couldn't find a lot of information about places to eat in the smaller towns in between the TC's and Fargo.

Phenomenal pie would have been nice. Two places I ate at and liked were Dairyland in Fergus Falls and the Whistle Stop Cafe in Hawley (which is not exactly right off of 94, but was close to Buffalo River State Park and the Bluestem Nature Preserve, which is why we were in the area). Dairyland has a chicken broaster, homemade jojo fries and onion rings, and I quite liked my meal there, but it's nothing fancy...like Conny's Creamy Cone with the addition of the items previously mentioned and recommended.

The Whistle Stop was a good diner, like you might hope to find in a small town. I don't know if they have any special items, but it looked like the caramel and cinnamon rolls were going fast.

I probably should have taken a gamble on one of the restaurants in Osakis when I stopped there. Tip Top Dairy Bar and A.J's Restaurant looked intriguing. I decided instead to just go cheap and ate at the Subway...there's a Subway available in almost every town between the TC's and Fargo it seems.

Report back when you make your trip, I'd be interested to hear where you ate.
