Deb and I were there a couple of weeks ago.
I like the tiny bar a lot. It can be old school and clubby (Lots of Duke alums celebrating their exalted basketball place on the planet last visit).
Staff is young and attentive. Food has some hits and misses. Pastas are the main attraction. The fusilli is worth the price of admission alone. Skip the octopus, overcooked and uninteresting. Pity, it should have been outstanding. Breads are quite good. Wine selection is interesting.
It's an adult place by any definition. Portions are quite generous: you've been warned. Noise tends to build as the night goes on. Diners, for the most part, are well dressed. Sitting outside is more casual.

I am sorry to hear about that octopus since that has always been among my favorite dishes
at Convivio and mine were bursting with flavor.

Grilled octopus can be special: charred exterior, sweet interior, touched by salt and a bit of oil. My example failed on all counts. It should have been better.

+1. ordered the octopus b/c of the raves on this board (by some). dry, overcooked, blah. also found most of the pasta dishes to be either boring or, in the case of the cicatelli, inedible due to extreme fattiness/richness. the fusilli were nice, but probably not worth going _just_ for that one dish.

          meh.

i was there last week for a simple dinner. to be honest, i wasnt as impressed as i previously was. the food is just fine but ive had some exemplary italian food lately...specifically at dell'anima on 8th ave in the village where the pasta is actually more impressive than convivio to me.

its fine, its a great restaurant but i think some of the excitement has died down for me. ill also note that the waiter i had was way too overbearing and did not read us well. it was like he was reading from a book describing every detail of the menu. the FOH was fine though.

"Search this board" is your friend. There is a ton of information on this subject.
