I realize that this is way past, but in case someone does a search later:
Al's is the place. http://alsrestaurant.net/DEFAULT.htm
- Totally old school, down to the live menu. It's been around 85 years!
- It is an "Italian" Steakhouse, so you get a side of pasta which is unique and to seldom done.
- Downtown on First Street down by Laclede's Landing, so you've got that history
I agree with alan, there is no way I'd go to Morton's or Ruth's Chris if their are local places available.
Not that I'm a steak expert, but bear in mind that Citizen Kane and Annie Gunn's are both locally owned, while Morton's is a national chain (as is Ruth's Chris, which is also an option). I always prefer the local option.
