Santa Fe -- One Night, Two Days

  • 3

Wife and I are going to have a well-deserved night away from the rug rats in May. Would like recommendations for two lunches and one memorable dinner.

  1. Based on your description of what you're seeking, you'd not go wrong with:

    Lunch #1: La Choza
Dinner: Trattoria Nostrani (don't wear scent)
    Lunch # 2: Clafoutis

All of these restaurants have been discussed here, and a search will reveal more info on them.

Frankly I would skip Nostrani unless you like being treated poorly, paying too much for tiny portions, and general abuse. There are many other options. How about La Boca, superb spanish and creative tapas, or Galestio Inn, a great new addition to Santa fe, or Restaurant Martine, modern southwestern, or the classic Geronimos.

The food's good at Trattoria Nostrani, and it's an "event" feeling place - and it's more of a cognoscenti place than Geronimo. I don't think I've ever felt abused there (although the "no scent" policy strikes me as pretty pretentious), and certainly never treated poorly. I also don't recall tiny portions - it ain't cheap, though.

La Boca is great (also not cheap or big with the portions) but isn't really a "thanks Heavens we were able to ditch the kids; let's make the most of it" place. That might be a good lunch substitute for Clafoutis, though. We tend to drop in to La Boca before concerts . . . light supper and some wine . . . I sure don't think of tapas for a grown-up dinner, though.

I almost put Geronimo, but it just seemed too obvious. Obviously (tee hee), it would be a great choice for dinner as well.
