Dinner with 7 Brown Students Where?!!

We are visiting our son at Brown University and after offering to take him and a "few" friends to dinner he took us up on the offer and asked six others to join us. So, we now have 9 people for dinner including the two of us. Any suggestions of a place that would be better than a student type place but not way upscale? Our son suggested Luxe Burger but that seems a bit more downscale than I was thinking (although I have not been there). Any suggestions?!! help me feed these hungry college boys............

  1. Luxe is absolutely fantastic. They have the best burgers around. Andino's on Federal Hill is my favorite place to take my family when they come to visit. Its a little small, so I would call ahead. The food is good and not as pricey as some of the other restaurants around there.

How would they get to Federal Hill? Bus? I presume it is not a walking distance from Brown. Correct?

i hamin, while it's cool you dig Old Canteen, it's all you ever mention in your posts. It seems to me like you're associated with the company...

        2. How about Everyman's Bistro. Went there for an after graduation dinner for my brother and it was great. Fun atmosphere. I thought the food was great and it would be the perfect "not way upscale" atmosphere for a college crowd.

njensen -- Can you give me a little more detail about the food? What exactly did you order and like? I see that the restaurant has mixed reviews her eon chow, but those are a bit outdated now too. I know they also host open mic nights. I've been looking for some fun places that serve food later, but not just banal pub food. Perhaps this would be an option?

          2. Got a suggestion for Blaze, Red Stripe and for Pizzico. Anyone have any thoughts on those?

Blaze is excellent. I really like their food, the atmosphere is nice but not over the top. Pizzco used to be good, but has really gone downhill the last few years. I'd stay way. Red Stripe is ok, service can be off and take a really long time. Food is ok but not steller.

How about the Rue it's right near Brown the food is great so is the service. I'd also suggest Pot Au Fue the food and service are excellent and they hit every price point. It's also very easy to get to from Brown.

For a college crowd, I would probably go with Red Stripe. I don't think the food at Blaze is up to par with other restaurants in the same price point. Pizzico is good-go there if you would rather something cozy than hip.

I think Pizzico used to be amazing, but a few years ago they changed owners/managers. The food has been overpriced and mediocre since (plus they got rid of that killer wine list. WTF?).
