Cape Cod - what's good (and open!) Chatham, Harwich, Orleans area

  • f

Tomorrow, the Bride and are I headed down to the Cape somewhere for golf and food and drink. Looking for recommendations on restaurants: good food, good wine list, friendly and casual atmosphere. Vinings in Chatham comes to mind, but it's been a while since we were there. Thanks!

  1. I just saw your request today, where did you end up going to eat etc once you were in the, Chatham, Orleans, Harwich area? One place in Chatham that sprang to mind is the Impudent Oyster, The Squire is sort of diagonally across the street from the Oyster, ive never been to the "Squire" but have been to the "Oyster" and enjoyed it, ive seen positive recs of the "Squire" . I will be in Chatham this weekend and plan on going the "The Red Nun" which has gotten some positive recs as well, iam not sure if thats the kind of place youre looking for or not..Iam sort of a low key sort of "hound" any way, dont go to many of the more upscale places unless it is a very special occasion, i also dont drink so i cant be of any help with wines etc..

I did answer my own question. Not much is open. From prior experience the Squire is always good and casual. There is a dining room area and the bar area. We looked at the Impudent Oyster, but it was a little too upscale for what we were thinking.
We went with some old reliables in the area: The 400 Club in Harwich, and Clancy's in
Dennis. Both good and reasonable prices.
If you are looking for a place to stay check out the Bradford Inn in the center of Chatham. A very nice place and discounted room rates. Highly recommended.

Thanks for posting. The IO is a pub...what was too upscale, the prices? Just curious...Appreciate the feedback on Bradford Inn.

The "upscale" remark might have been inappropriate,as it was more of a vibe thing. It just seemed to us to be more formal than our mood at the time. Since we didn't eat there I didn't even look at the menu.

Try it next time you're in town. Of the places you mention, it is by far the best. It's not even close actually, and is very casual.

I hate to give up all my secrets especially since it's too late for our friend and his wife.....

Best on the cape for Xpensive upscale seafood is Cape Sea Grill, Harwich just south of the port. Anyone remember Thompsons Clam Bar?

Anyway, opening this Thursday is my fave Chatham spot, Pisces, on rt 28 in south Chatham. I liked it better before they got valet parking, but I still like it an awful lot.

Since we are sharing: Ross' Grill in P Town is worth the trip just for the view and the wine list. The food was also good, but that was a couple of years ago.
Anybody know about Delmar in Chatham- it was on limited hours this week , but looked "appetizing".
+1 on the Cape Sea Grille- been there several times.
On the golf front , if you are interested: Bass River is in great shape, and there was hardly anyone playing, The bar and restaurant was closed though.

I almost hit Cape Sea Grill last week. Originally I was hoping to go to Pisces but was disappointed to learn they weren't open yet.
However, when I checked out the CSG menu online it looked a bit too "overdone".
Example: Grilled Organic Salmon atop smoked bacon rice with a sauté of portobellos, braised artichokes, & fennel in a crème fraiche & golden beet Borscht broth
That seems like way too many ingredients to put along side fish - - - especially such strong components like bacon, portobello, fennel, adn beet borscht broth.
I've never been but I guess the menu scared me away. Ended up going to Lyric in Yarmouthport instead.

We used to frequent CSG but I am turned off my the very close tables..they pack them in. It used to be great. What did you think of Lyric? Has anyone been to the Red Pheasant lately or what's up with the former Gracie's Table?

Didn't get to Red Pheasant last year, but it remains one of my favorites. I'm planning to get back there this year.

Sadly Red Pheasant is up for sale. It had been reported that Gracie's Table had been sold, but I see it too, is still actively listed as for sale.
