Barbecue Inn, Asheville?

Will be making my first trip down to Asheville in a couple of months. The other night, someone told me I had to go to Barbecue Inn (on Patton Ave). There's pretty much zero mention of this place on Chowhound through the years, though... not usually a good sign. So is this place chow worthy or not?

i've lived in asheville going on 20 years and haven't been there in 15 or so for good reason. bland, finely chopped bbq on the occasions i did go (if it REQUIRES sauce for flavor and lubrication, then it's not bbq in my book), sides straight from the can. not a style i'm fond of (i don't get destroying all the textural differneces in a well-smoked hog/shoulder/butt/whatever, especially that wonderful bark). if you like eastern-style, maybe it's good?

It is Eastern style, so quite different than 12 Bones. I used to get a sandwich from there every once in a while and it was always consistent. I never went inside, just ordered through the carhops.

I wouldn't say it was the best, but it was decent. If you like Eastern style then this is the only option for miles and miles. That said, I lived within walking distance of the place for 7 years and only ate there less than a dozen times...

Never been, never heard anything good or bad. Also not a good sign! :) I'm sure you've read about it if you've been checking here, but 12 Bones is highly recommended for BBQ in the area.

I found this site with some reviews. Nothing current, but sounds pretty good.
