Need a Sunday Dinning Slot Filled

  • 9

Trying to make a reservation for a Sunday Dinner spot. Had wanted to go to Couchon, but its closed on Sundays. In fact, it seems like a lot of places are. I will be there 2nd weekend of JazzFest, so i know that a lot of spots are filled.

Already hitting up Commanders & Stella for dinners, and something like August (which i really liked) is probably a little pricey for what I'm looking for. I used to live in NO, and it seems like a lot of the new, interesting places aren't open on Sunday, so I'd love some help. I'm staying in Jackson Square, but have wheels and will travel. Probably thinking something in the Louisiana or New Orleans cuisine vein.

Thanks.

  1. Green Goddess might fit the bill, but based on size and jazz fest, not so sure.

Luke would be probably be the only "new" one in the group s to speak, but just in case as an fyi

Well thank you. I've heard mixed on Luke, but am generally a fan of Besh & brasserie style in general.

I never made it to Nola, but was actually thinking Emerils might fit the bill. I haven't been there since 2000 (slightly uneven meal, but good), but from what I've heard its quite good now days. A bit of a hike though.

Muriels is right there. I gotta run this by my father, as Sunday is his choice, but he usually defers to me on things food/research related.

And yeah, Green Goddess is on my radar as well. Might be swamped b/c of the fest I take it.

It is probably late for a reservation but you might be able to walk in at Domenica. I've had a few lunches there and it has been very good. I'm not nominating it for An Eternal Restaurant but it might fit your "newer place' bill.

I will say this..it is grand to have SOMEthing in that space apart from that God-Awful dump that was there when the, well, let's just call them "previous administration" had it.

    2. Upperline if you can get in. Always a great choice Sunday choice.

Well I got a late (9:45) reservation at Emerils. Possibly too late for my party, although a post jazz-fest nap can certainly change things.

I'm gonna give Upperline a shout today, as they were closed yesterday. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions!

Sorry to change gears here, what about some place outside of town to avoid crowds? Since my Dad's 1st choice was Couchon (closed on Sunday), what about a place more cajun leaning or homestyle seafood?

        2. re: figndate

          Glad to hear this, Fig.

We settled on Upperline and just made our Sunday, 16 May, reservations.

Turns out the person taking the reservation was the owner (Joanne?) and was curious as to how a Wisconsin boy knew of her place.

I mentioned Chowhound and she seemed to know of "us"!

I'm looking forward to it and am bringing guests that I hope to impress with my choice.

          Thanks,
