Falls Church/Merrifield late night

Arriving at Dulles about 10pm on Thursday night, staying in Merrifield (near Gallows & Lee Hwy). Our stomachs will be on Pacific time.

Anything open late around there (or on the way from Dulles) that's better than Silver Diner? Searches identify only a few sports bars. (An older post mentions Sea Pearl but their website says they are open only until 10.)

  1. Clydes in Tysons has a late night menu. For that matter McCormick & Schmick's stays open till midnight I believe. And Marks Duck House down 50 is open till 11 if thats enough time. PF Changs closes at 10:30. And theres always Sweetwater right over where you are staying.

    1. El Tio, on Lee Hwy, is open until 10 PM on weeknights, 11 on Fri and Sat. Excellent Mexican food, great service, nice ambience.

      1. Sweetwater Tavern, 3066 Gatehouse Plaza,Falls Church, VA 22042,(703) 645-8100 is 10 minutes away, with very good beer and food.
Also right near you are 2 full service Asian markets, H Mart and Grand Mart, that have food counters as well, and are open late.

For the record (since the OP's trip is over), while H Mart and Grand Mart have food counters and the supermarkets themselves are open late, the food counters have different, shorter, hours than the supermarkets.

        2. If you're coming into Dulles at 10, then by the time you get to Merrifield, Sweetwater may not have their full kitchen open (they stop seating at 10:00 or 10:30, I think).

If you travel down the Beltway 2 more exits south is Little River Turnpike. Go toward Annandale/east and take a left at the very first stoplight, and just beyond the 7-11 is Yechon, a 24-hour good Korean restaurant.

          1. Because it'll be so late at night by the time you arrive, and most good places will be closed by then, especially on a week night, you could try Amphora's. There is a diner near the airport and a restaurant in Vienna, pretty close to Merrifield. The diner is much larger, decent diner type food. It's about 10 minutes from the airport, off the Dulles Toll Road so should be convenient for you. The restaurant is in Vienna, about 10 minutes from Merrifield.

They're baked goods look far better than they taste, but the food itself is solid, though far, far better than the Silver Diner and other places open in that area that time of night. They're both open 24 hours.

Is there much or any difference btwn the two? I know the Herndon location better, but have been to Vienna (thought it's been a few years). I always thought those were the same and the bakeries were the only thing different.

              I also third Sweetwater.

I've only been to the one in Vienna for lunch but the other one for dinner a couple of times. The one in Herndon is very much a diner, with Greek food while the one in Vienna is a Greek restaurant w/ some diner food. They are the same owner but I didn't try the same thing at both to know if they're the same all around. There is also the bakery in Vienna next door to the restaurant but I only saw desserts in the case at the diner. There might have been a full bakery but I've heard they make all desserts in Herndon and bring them to Vienna.

I prefer Sweetwater, in that area, but it closes at 11pm on Thursday nights. If the OP is landing at 10pm, there's no way he'll make it in time.
