hhc Apr 19, 2010 12:10 AM

Went for the Nestle Green Tea Kit Kat from Japan - $4 a box like a regular size Kit Kat. C. went to Japan yrs ago, and I asked him to get me some, he couldn't find them. Glad Diane got a bunch of them! I bought 2. Hurry before they are Gone!

Matcha Caramel Balls ($12/lb) Both Derek. & I tried them first and liked them. We bought some. Ask for a sample.

Got 1/4lb of Chocolate Olives - they look like olives, but they are dark chocolate w/ stuff inside. Green ones are white chocolate, but you have to get both. Ask for a sample.

Papabubble from NY in a packaged bag. Cute animal faces on the different colors/flavors. Will try soon. No samples given, sealed bags.

Follow on Twitter (@thecandystoresf) to find out what they have new.

In June they will have their 3rd anniversary party. Can't wait.

Credit cards taken over $10 minimum.

I was at Nijiya in SF Japantown on Friday, and they had green tea Kit Kats there for $2.69. They also have a milky coffee flavor (which I had in Japan, and is very good). Both of these are spring releases -- the boxes feature cherry blossoms.

There is a kiosk in the Stonestown Mall food court that has Japanese candy, including all the crazy KitKat flavors. It's over by the San Francisco Soup Co.

Nijaya was sold out of Green Tea and Milky Coffee as of 11a.m. Had a strawberry flavor I didn't buy. They were uncertain if they will get more.

I stopped by The Candy Store and picked one up today and really enjoyed it! I've been on a quest to try some different flavors of Kit Kat ever since reading "The Ramen King & I" I'll try Nijaya over the weekend and see if they have any left.

About six weeks ago, they had ohagi (a baked sweet bean bun) and ginger ale Kit Kats at Mitsuwa in San Jose .

After not being available here for years (though they were in the 80s-90s), I guess Japanese Kit Kats are back in a limited capacity, so if Nijiya doesn't have any, you may also want to check some of the other grocery stores in Japantown and maybe Ichiban Kan).

I have an appointment tonight near Stonestown, so I may drop in there and check out the kiosk mentioned above.

Debbie M, did you check out the kiosk at Stonestown?

My husband went to Mitsuwa in SJ Wed 4/21/10 and got me a Nestle Green Tea Kit Kat & it was only $1.99/box compared to $4/box at The Candy Store, SF.

Unfortunately, no. My appointment ran late, so I couldn't get to Stonestown before they closed. I have time to kill between movies Saturday at the Int'l Film Festival, so I may try to go then.

Stopped by Nijiya at lunch and picked up:
                      Milk Coffee ($2.19)
                      Semisweet ($2.19) and
Banana (it 's a longer bar, also $2.19)

did they have the green tea flavor as well at Nijiya?

No, they did not have the green tea when I stopped in yesterday. The banana was overwhelmingly banana flavored, which was fine by me since I'm a banana fan!

We stopped by Nijiya this afternoon, and didn't see the Green Tea today either; however, we did see bags of mini Custard Pudding Kit Kats, in addition to the Milk Coffee, Semisweet, and Banana.

The crazy flavor kit kats are by far better than a regular kit kat. Green tea is my favorite flavor, the craziest flavor I've tried was yuzu and black pepper (if I remember correctly). The various flavors are "seasonal", in quotes since I am not sure if that corresponds to actual growing seasons or manufacturing seasons. Thanks for the tip hhc!

Picked up a couple of green tea Kit Kats at Genki on Clement St. for $2.39 each an hour ago. They also had bags of mini Maples and Flan. I'm blanking on the other flavors in the boxes but was happy to get those green tea ones.

I bought some green tea KK at Niijiya last Friday. They tasted like white chocolate with Green Tea essence. Interesting, but I'm not a big white chocolate fan, so was just o.k. for me.
